Hello From New Zealand

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone thought I should introduce myself for my second thread.

Im from Auckland, New Zealand in the south pacific. My hookah is a small nahkla branded (made in china methinks) thing

that I used for the first time last weekend, and it smoked really well (as far as I can tell anyways).

I have three shishas with me that I got from Dubai Airport, Al Fahker two apples which I love, Al Waha africano Kiwifruit, which I thought was fairly

bland and certainly didnt taste like my national fruit!, and a crazy Bahrainian strawberry flavoured shisha, which has lovely smoke but not as much

flavour as I expected (still a goodie though).

Is there anyone else here from New Zealand? Id love to hear your opinions of NZ hookah smoking and any recommended stores (both online and direct)

that deal in hookah stuff (hookahs, shisha, funnels, bowls, hoses etc).

Also it seems the only two brands I can get here readily are Al Waha and Al Nahkla. Al Waha I didnt think too much of (so far anyways) and havent

tried Nahkla yet (will be doing that over the next month or so). Hopefully it is better than the Al Waha. Any recommendations on the Nahkla?

Its a real shame I cant source Al Fakher cos that is my favourite smoke now after trying the yummy two apple.

Welcome!
I've spent a couple of months down on the South Island, right outside of christchurch. Absolutely stunning country.

But I thought hookahs were banned in NZ? I tried to bring one there from turkey and they confiscated it. Aren't they classified as paraphenalia? (sp?)

wow chocomint sounds awesome thanks for the recommendation Stuie! Especially as I like those strong flavours (like Af 2 apples), Ill def be hunting out some of

that. Is Nahkla generally considered superior smoke to Al Waha?

MN, yes hookahs are banned here for import it seems, my one I bought at Dubai airport was seized (but I did declare it to avoid the fine).

But then you can go straight onto trademe (NZs version of ebay) and pick up an expensive syrian one there immediately, or any head shop/smoke shop sells them as well

as well as replacement parts. They are very expensive though (think $250 NZ plus) Turkish cafes also have them for usage and theres a guy in Tauranga trying to open

a 24hour hookah bar... So yeah the law is a little vague. There doesnt seem to be anyone stocking KM or MZ brands anywhere though so may just have to settle for a hand made

Syrian when I get back home.

Im keen to eventually buy a much nicer hookah (after I get back from a spell in Aus) but im a little worried about it getting picked up by customs... hence why im

trying to find any fellow NZers who may have had some experience. Edited by mikeburns

Welcome! I am fairly new to the forum as well and live in the Washington DC area. I have vacationed up in the North Islands several times in recent years. Some time in Auckland, but most up in the Northland... Mangonui, Bay of Islands, etc... Absolutely wonderful part of the world and one of the few spots that I have been to that still appear untouched. Cheers!
