So I Train Mma And...

i freaking love smoking the hook' after a long 3hour session in the cage. it really helps me settle down and relax. i even forget the busted lip, black eyes and hurting joints i have. but at the same token i'm kind of curious if anyone one does any working out or high cardio sports? some people tell me that it's going to mess up my cardio and yadda yadda yadda. on the other hand people say, "because there is no tar it doesnt constrict your oxygen intake" anyone have any input on this?

IMO it has not hurt anything on me. my cardio is still super high. i dont feel out of breath. my sparring is very intense. my jujitsu is spectacular and i feel full of oxygen.

surfing is so tiring too!!!! lol talk about a work out i rather get punched and fight for three hours then to feel sore from paddling lol and same here i smoke the same times as you. is it just me or does it really just seem like the smoking session is way more relaxing after a long day of events (working,working out, school, training mma, surfing, stressful day)??

yeah for sure its like a reward for a hard days work. I have found if i smoke right before i work out i can be a little out of breath and sometimes get heartburn, but as long as i sleep on it im fine the next morning, plus after a bowl im too lazy to do anything

Well, Ill put it this way. I played rugby at the last school i went to. (The Only reason I dont play where i am now is because they dont have ateam, YET.) I didnt smoke hookah at that time, but i smoked cigars. I never had any problems. Im not nearly as active as i was, but i still dont have any problems. Aboiut the tar thing. Thats sort of true. They are listing the amount of tar found in the tobacco, which is 0.0%. That part is true. All tobacco is that way, but tar is a byproduct of the heat given to the tobacco.

I would say just keep doin what your doin and make your own decision about if its detrimental or not.

since it's my descion KEEP SMOKING!! i'm feeling good and even better with hookah sessions. dam rugby is insane man. i have cauliflower ears but dam!! you guys get em worst hahahah oh nice input on the whole tar thing. what school plays rugby that you go to?

I never got the ear cause i opted not to wear a scrum cap. I used to play for Wayland Baptist University.
I currently got to Eastern New Mexico and they dont have a team, but i have been contemplating talking to them about gettin one going.

i would think the cap would save your ears right? we have ear scruffs to wear but it's like a unwritten law not to wear em. you can be the captain of the team since you started it and you'll be making rugby history if you get a team at your school! i say do it!! and i'm sure you can have hookahforum.com sponsor the team too laugh.gif

The cap does the opposite of save your ears. Its puts a ton of pressure on them and causes the dreaded ear. As a back I was never in much danger of a torn ear anyway. Forewards are the ones that are there. HTey typically just tape the top portion of their ears to keep them attached.

Keep us updated on how the hookah is workin out.

perfect!!! you're right on my page!! wrestling is awesome. what weight class? good man so it's just small talk about it hurting our cardio. i'm a totaly health freak when it comes to messing my training and putting my cardio in jeapordy. looks like everything is GO!!

I used to do MMA I preferred stand up myself but i still had some good ground game. I smoked hookah before training before fights and after both as well.

i never felt it slowed me down one bit.


(of course i also smoke cigars a normal pipe and chain smoke menthol's since i was a kid. so i cant say for sure.)

I murder people in the cage, like rip thier brains out and shit. I once bit a guys nose off and made him look just like michael jackson.
When I'm not eating spleens for sport I play chess and I haven't noticed my smoking interfering with my ability to stomp some ass!

I'm sure you'll be fine, especially since you're doing such a high cardio workout multiple times a week. Thats awesome btw, I love that shit. I think it would be amazing to just do those workouts, I'm sure they'd kill me. I'll just stick to the weights 3x a week and not as intense cardio for now...

dunno...it does affect me when i train...but, i smoked a lot and smoked cigarettes too...but, if your cardio is good already...you can just push through it...

it'll help it eventually, because when you quit for a match (which i did)...my lungs feel sooo much more open and i don't really get winded easily...

for sure. i smoked only 2 -3 a day and within a month i was getting out of breath

i wrestled 125 130 and 135 was ranked in my state for a while i loved wrestling, my fav sport by far

IMO it has not hurt anything on me. my cardio is still super high. i dont feel out of breath. my sparring is very intense. my jujitsu is spectacular and i feel full of oxygen.


I run anywhere from 5-10 miles 3-5x a week. I haven't noticed any problems unless I smoke right before I go out.

There isn't enough research to say it doesn't do any harm.
