Need Help With My New Pakistani Traditional Hookah!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Today I just bought my fourth hookah or so in a hard to find market from an ethnic pakistani at his booth. It was about 60 cm tall and is completely made of bronze, except for the hose. Everything looks good except for one thing I can not understand. It could have been what the seller had tried to tell me, but his english was very hard to grasp. The problem is though, if i make myself understandable, that there is no stem from the shaft to the base, through which the smoke can move through the water. It is like it is made to be used without water, because I can seem to figure out how the smoke would pass through water before entering the hose when there is to stem to the bottom of the base. Only a connector from the shaft to the base, and a hole at the top of the base for the hose.

That was all very long a dull i guess, but had to make sure i made myself perfectly clear tongue.gif (i hope). But what do you think? how should i use it? is it a production error?(even though he told me it was hand made) is it perhaps not even a hookah at all?tongue.gif Please help! Thanks

just went back to the paki merchant today and talked to him about the hookah. It seems it is not a hookah at all and is supposed to be used with a dry traditional tobacco of sorts and that only the smaller pipes needed the downpipe. Got a demonstration as well. Works wonderfully although harsher and very different that usual shisha. But i cant complain. The bronze thing is a beaut tongue.gif

I call shenanigans on your merchant.

If you are going to get the smoke to bubble into the water, something basic to a hookah, then there has to be a downstem. It's harsh because it's NOT going through the water. just from the head to the hose.

Does it take water in it someplace? what kind of tobacco DOES it take? If its a dry powdered tobacco/herb mix that you add honey to do they carry it?
I still think you are being BS'ed.

I share your concern, but he did not sell any other kind of pipes or shisha tobacco. Only these things, which do look very different than the usual hookahs i have seen. He called it something like tombac pipe or something, and he seemed quite honest i guess tongue.gif and ive read a bit about it on the internet, and it seems legit. I will upload a picture as soon as i get back to norway! The tobacco he used was a very course dry paki tobacco which he placed on top of a small stone and then used a small coal piece and closed the lid on top. No honey or molasses at all. And he specifically said; "no hubbly bubbly" tongue.gif And to be honest. It wasn´t bad at all. More like smoking cigarettes only milder. And a VERY strong nicotine buzz
