Stuie Posted July 21, 2009 Share Posted July 21, 2009 Well starting Friday on my way to my car headed home when my wife called and my little girl had a temp of 102. After a quick check by the doctor they admitted her to the hospital. Lumbar Puncture (Oh the screams were bad), Blood Test and Urinalysis all come back and she has a UTI. Sucks, but at least we knew. But we had to stay through Monday for Observation and 2 more tests a Kidney Sonogram and VCUG (oh the screams again). Then we got to go home monday afternoon to a house with no power till midnight and no cable, internet or phone till 11 this morning...when it rains it pours. And the clouds aren't gone yet.VCUG results just got called into us from our doctor and she has backflow on both her kidneys. We are getting an appointment made for a Pediatric Urologist at Cooks Children Hospital in Fort Worth (2 hour drive). There was a possibility she could grow out of this and everything straighten out. But since one kidney is more than just a little bit of backflow she will be having a non surgical procedure to correct it most likely. Didn't quiet understand but it sounds like a surgical balloon used to straighten it out. Hey the clouds are still around... Because our Insurance Company is a room full of morons they think my girl hasn't had her 2 week check up, which she did 4 weeks ago, so they haven't issued her a policy so yeah... this past hospital visit may or may not be covered.... Also, make sure she's getting enough fluids. poor baby Just get the paperwork from the doc office regarding the 2 week checkup and fax it to the insurance company, or have the doc office fax it to the insurance...that seems a bit retarded about the insurance companies. A temp of 102 isn't as bad for babies though, as their basal temp is a bit higher than the "norm" of 98.6. 103+ is a lot more to worry about. One other thing: any health issue..babies are resilient (usually), so it would be better to fix it now than if this issue started when she's more able to realize what's going on. It had to get in there somehow (wipes typically don't disinfect, so say you fold over the wipe to wipe again with a clean portion, there's a possibility of it getting in somehow), not trying to be mean, could just be an evil bacteria that happened to find it's way to the urethra. Some forms of staph bacteria progress really quick once they find a way in and are commonly found on skin. Backflow I don't think is uncommon...if you're referring to backflow from the bladder to the kidneys. It will happen *eventually* to any untreated uti/bladder infection. For people who have silent UTI's (no symptoms/pain/fever during the uti/bladder infection) it's quite dangerous. I really hope your baby is back to healthy soon! Honestly, like others have said, it is best for a person to be sick early in life, easier to deal with. I know this probably isn't an immunity issue, but being sick earlier in life helps build the immunity system up as well. Be glad we have the amazing medical stuff we have so she can get taken care.Any bills health related are always a pain the ass, I am still fighting my $2400 ER bill. Even if I run it through insurance, I still have to pay like $700 out of pocket. Thats medical insurance for you though. But hey, your baby girl is worth it though right? I cant imagine what you are going through. Just know that we are all there for you. Try calling and faxing the insurance company multiple times a day if you are able to. Maybe if you call and fax someone who is higher up in the chain than ur basic insurance lacky things may speed up a bit in getting the insurance to clear. HOpe all goes well. It was heartbreaking and so tiring to go through. Especially when it seems like the medical system has no major concern for expedience when you feel as a parent that nothing could be more important than getting the most prompt and complete care possible for your child.Sorry to hear it sir, I'm hoping all is well soon. That's standard policy for every insurance company I've ever heard of or worked with - and there have been many. It may take a little bit to get the insurance issue straightened out, but the hospital will most likely work with you because quite frankly they're going to get money faster from an insurance company than from you. I know it's stressful when your child is sick. Hang in there, insist on good doctors you feel a trust with, and remember kids are little disease factories. The baby is automatically covered under the mothers insurance... with one exception.... Medicare won't cover it. Since my wife is legally blind she get's Medicare coverage for free. So options were then my insurance or private policy... seeing as it's $500 a month for my daughter to be on my insurance, we went with a private policy, better coverage half the price. So that's how that worked out. My agent has been bugging them all day yesterday and will again today. I am confident it will be resolved soon. Thanks for all your support guys and gals. It takes a lot of focus to keep from loosing it sometimes, she's just so small and all the painful procedures she has gone through... The insurance company should have to retroactivly cover her stuff or you need to have a word with the insurance commissioner of your state. They tend to take BS like this from an insurance company VERY seriously.Good luck and stay cool.edit: I see i missed the last post.
