Bad Hookah Lounge Experience

Recommended Posts

So I come back to my hometown near Portland, OR and we used to have this fairly decent lounge that everyone went to. They used phunnel bowls for the most part and I don't remember what they packed, but it was always a decent smoke. Well, this place closed apparently, but a new place called Hookah Island opened down the street .

I didn't expect a whole lot from this joint because I had never heard of it before. Anyway, the place looked scruffy from the outside. I walk in, and the first thing I notice is the ridiculously large display of KM Tri-metals, but my wiener got soft again when I saw nobody besides about 5 bratty, preppy high school girls running the place (EDIT: not saying that a high school girl wouldn't be able to pack a bowl...). I manned up and decided to buy an !!8 DOLLLARRR!!! bowl of AF orange. They start packing one of their Egyptian clay bowls and just CRAMMED that shit in there. It was spillin' all over the place. By this time, I sorta wanted my money back, or at least be able to pack it myself (not sure I would do much better as I had never smoked AF before, but anything could have been better than this bowl)...

Anyhow, they put some foil over the AF and lit a couple of cocos for me. I sit down to smoke this bowl, and all I can think about is how effing well the KM pulls (I own a mya diva, but the KM was still impressive). I got gobs of smoke, but it tasted absolutely terrible. To conclude, I don't think that people should open up a shop and hire whoever the hell thinks they can load a bowl. The place looks like it's going downhill, and I can't imagine why they would invest in so many Tri-metals. I also heard that the owner of Hookah Island was dating the guy who closed the other bar down the street and they broke up. This must have been her pathetic attempt to show him up.
