Spats
In my limited expertise... Try a second coal or splitting the singlecoal into 2 parts. Lack of heat can result in weak flavor and smoke. You'll know if you get it too hot

combs08
I would add another coal. And also, how is your packing technique?
Baric
Seeing as you're using Nakhla, there's no need to keep the tobacco away from the foil: quite the opposite in fact. Try breaking up the clumps of Nakhla in the packet then piling the tobacco into your bowl so its actually a little bit above the rim. Use the foil to push it down to below the rim, before pulling the foil tight, poke holes, then add heat (dont be scared to add it as it can take a lot). You could try adding half a QL at a time (5 mins between) to avoid overheating. There are lots of good nakhla packing videos but the above has always worked for me. Zinite
Clean your hookah very well. A dirty hookah can diminish flavor. Pack the tobacco higher. Break the coal into 1/3's and try that.
Codename067
Your problem sounds like its directly related to heat management.Add an extra coal, make more holes in your foil, try to take a hit out of your hose when it is not connected to the hookah, and see if you are getting an odd taste there.
