Hey everyone!

I'm Kris, from Plymouth, SW England. I've only just started smoking Shisha after a recent trip to Turkey and coming home deep in regret I didn't buy a hookah there!

I've gone out and bought a chinese hookah to see how I get along with it with a view to upgrading in a month or two if I don't get bored!

I bought a pack of shisha-lite (made by swift lite) coals, a 50gr pack of Soex Peach, 100gr boxes of mixed fruit and strawberry High-Life Smoke and a 50gr pack of Afzal Blueberry.


Now.... I can get almost all the Soex flavours pretty easily for £1.99 / 50gr. The peach was the first I tried and had a bit of flavour but not as much as I'd like. It seemed to smoke ok seeing as it was my very first bowl I'd prepped.

The high-life stuff was just crappy IMHO. I understand both are just herbal, but the high-life had no flavour at all. This could be because I packed the bowl badly, or I burnt it but I'm going to hold off that stuff for the moment.

The Afzal Blueberry was a bit better, but still not as flavoursome as I'd expected. I'm not getting as much smoke off any of my bowls as I'd like either and seem to burn them a lot!


So....I'd like some info if poss - I'm guessing the Afzal is the best of the lot that I have, and I can't find much else around here. A shop up the road does advertise Al Fakher but it's only a corner shop and when I went in they only had the Afzal stuff.

I think I have had the following problems. Packing bowl too loosely, not putting enough shisha in the bowl, putting too much in and it touching the foil and burning, too little or too much coal. Also, I'm using standard supermarket foil.

Would I be better off breaking the coals into 2, 4 or leaving them whole? And should I start out with 2 whole coals, on the outside of the bowl, or one split into pieces around the edge.

Should I double up on the foil, and how many holes should I make.....it's all a bit confusing to me but I really want to get it sussed so I can have a nice smoke without wasting more money!


The hookah is fine, and airtight. Anyone know of where I can get decent tobacco shisha in UK. Nowhere seems to have it apart from the man up the road and his few boxes of Afzal! There is another guy at the market, but he has 100gr of a couple flavours in sealed tupperware pots for £5.99 - no idea what make it is though or if it's proper tobacco or herbal..

Avoid afzal like the plague. It's horrendous stuff. Unless of course you like it!

I've smoked Nahkla for years and it's just fine

You can also order it straight from America with very few problems

Hi johnny,

what out of the four I have would you recommend persevering with? I only bought the afzal as it's the only non herbal stuff I could get locally. Are there any places with decent shipping rates. Most places I've looked are wanting $40 or thereabouts. Why can't we get it here easily?

This country sucks. Oh well, I've found a supplier of AF in my area now so will stick to that for a bit and hope that I get some nice gifts from mother on her return from Tunisia. I'm especially hoping for a nice af or km hookah!
