How'd I Do?

Recommended Posts

Bought it from a little old lady (seriously) who's long-passed husband brought it back from Saudi in '71. It stands 55" tall and is made of solid brass. It has 4 things that look like candle-holders that pivot out from the top, original bowl, and a really long hose that appears to be cloth-over-leather, with wooden ends. The end that goes into the hookah has a tiny little pillow on a lanyard, which I guess is some sort of a plug. No, I haven't smoked it and I doubt it's ever been smoked, at least since it came to the states. Price: $75.

What do you think?

That is unusual. Very nice, for the price. Good luck getting the tombak flavor out. Try beer or vodka in the main shank. The hose...who knows? It'll take a lot of smoking to get it out.

As to the candle holders? Head piece/tip holders perhaps. I don't think its for candles...1971 sounds like a perfectly reasonable date.

Well, like I said, I doubt it's been smoked in close to 40 years, so probably not much flavor other than dust and brass, but I'll give it a good rinse with 50/50 water vinegar, followed by lots of hot water. I'm a pipe-smoker anyway, so tombak probably no big deal anyway. As for the hose I think I'll keep it as a display item and stick with my naamor.

Anyone know if pipes like this are still widely available? I'm curious if this is a dime-a-dozen item in places of the world, or if this is more unique.

Cheers
