Got My Hookah. First Smoke

Recommended Posts

I got my first hookah and got a chance to smoke last night. It's a Mya oddysey. Was smoking sb blue mist. Was pretty good but ran in to a few problems.

I am using the regulare bowl that comes with it. After about 30 mins it got kinda harsh so I took off foil and mixed it a little then it was fine. Is this normal? There was some burnt on to foil

I read about people using 1.5-2 coals. I was using Golden ql and broke 1 up into 4 pieces and set them on them on the edge of the bowl. Is this right? Was getting a good bit of smoke. They are the 33mm ones I think.

Cleaning. I just ran warm water all through it is this ok. It's not going to ruin it right?

How often did you rotate your coals? I used to have that problem a lot when I used a screen. I honestly cant say what it exactly is. But I rotate and manage my coals like an angry dictator. So maybe try to not let them sit for too long?

sounds like you were burning instead of heating. try not to get anything stuck to the foil next time. also just because you start with 4 pieces doesnt mean your session will require 4 pieces the entire time (espically on a small bowl)

if it happens again you can always take the bowl off the hookah and blow in it through the bottom to help cool off the bowl quickly. (regular bowls only) Edited by clickhea

as for cleaning, i use dish soap and a cleaning brush.

An alternative to dish soap is lemon juice. Costco and Sam's Club sell it in huge bulk containers. I don't use dish soap because no matter how much I wash it out, sometimes there are still soap bubbles during a session days later.

Welcome to the world of Hookah! If you like to experiment and keep notes (recommended) then you are all set.

Everything seems to be a juggling act at first! Try 1 QL split into 2 pieces and keep them on the edges. Rotate
them at 5-10 minute intervals around the bowl. If it gets harsh then it's too much heat. I prefer the cube shaped
coals over the round ones and use 2 whole ones. Let them overhang the bowl for the first couple of moves and
move them towards the center as they burn. I get 2 hours out of a 25-30 g. bowl with 2 + 2 cubes.

I have a crust on the "puck" when done, some stuck to the foil and the bottom of the puck is almost dried out.

Cleaning so far? I am bad... Hot water rinse when things are cooled off (not the hose.) Blow out your hose and
hang it up. If you smoke herbal shisha, get a separate bowl and hose from your tobacco ones.

doesn't dish soap leave a residue? and not recommended for cleaning your hookah?
