morssolis
I am new hookah smoker and have a few more questions. This forum has been great at helping me figure this alll out.I am storing my shisha in ziplock bags. I have read this is a good way to store but how long will it be good for? Also do you need to let it sit out for a while before smoking it? I know the tangier you do but why about af, sb, and nak? Zinite
Nope not a good way to store it. The Ziplock bag is very porous and absorbs the flavor of the tobacco. Buy some decent tupperwear like Lock n' Lock containers or Snapware. Glassware works better though (more expensive). You can leave a tobacco out for a couple hours if you feel that it is suffering from humidity shock. This is describes as a funky smell or taste to the tobacco. This is usually necessary with Tangiers and Nakhla, though it can sometimes benefit unwashed tobacco too. Sonthert
Think about it like a 2L bottle of soda going flat. You open it and the fizz escapes. More fizz dissolves and fills up the top of the bottle..until you open it up again. High water content tobaccos need their water. The more you open the container, the more water evaporates. Just a thought.
pretender
Put your stuff in a plain old Mason jar in a dark, cool place if you intend to keep it for some time. And disturb it only when necessary - take out what you want for a while and do whatever you'd normally do with that. The big thing with tobacco is that you lose moisture content over time, the tobacco itself cures further, the flavoring chemicals break down, and eventually you've something unsmokable and unrecognizable. Keeping your goodies as sealed from the outside atmosphere as you can will go a long way towards preventing this.Me - I'm not any kind of test case, but I've kept a pouch of Al Fakher sealed, inside a Ziploc, and I bought it around Feb. There are no significant changes that I can report. Same as when I bought it.
trouts
You could just keep an old jam jar like I do, wash it out, and use that. Cheap, good storage.Side question: I never bother - what's the consensus on putting your tobacco in the fridge?

Zinite
I just started using mason jars. They work great.Don't put shisha in the refrigerator. It's too extreme of an environment.

That's what I meant by jam jars - mason jars.Any kind of glass jar is fine really. I don't see the point in buying them especially, I just put empty jars of jam/mustard/mayonnaise/etc in the dishwasher (after scraping the labels off) and save them til I need them. They were on sale at Ace Hardware though, like 12 of them for 8 dollars.
