Smokey Taste

Recommended Posts

Hello guys. I had quick question. When I blow the smoke out it taste really smokey. I can taste the charcoal. I'm I packing the bowl wrong? I don't always double foil it but when I do I get the same result. I taste the charcoal. Why does this happen? Is it the brand of the charcoal?

I couldn't stand the taste so I stopped and this is what the tobacco looked like.

most likely your coals, what kind are you using? If you are using insta-lights (besides CH) than that is most likely your problem. Have you washed your hookah/hose? Looks like in the picture its a regular non-washable mya hose, but if its washable than try washing it.

Looks like you could use more shisha, or fluff it up more. Also, from the looks of it, you are putting the coal in the middle. Try splitting them up and putting them on the edges of the bowl.

You're placing the coal in the center of the bowl. If you aren't ready to spend money on better coals (coals that have no taste, instead of tasting like ass), cut the coal up with a knife and place the pieces on the edge of the bowl.

Yeah I used some insta-lights that I've had for a few months. What brand coal would you recommend?

IF you have 3kings coals I would be somewhat surprised...In anycase when you light your coals do you wait until the bottom is all red hot? if you dont that may be where the issue lies. Thats my opinion since I have been using 3kings for years and I dont get any smoky flavor from the coals (Unless I cant taste anything). Good Luck with finding hte problem.

None of the better quicklight coals should be giving you any taste issues. I've used both Goldens and Three Kings and neither have a distinctly bad taste to them. You really cant tell you're using quicklights if you're smoking a good flavor. As was said earlier, split the coals and put them on opposing sides of the bowl and see if that solves the issue.

Ya wait until the coal is all red before putting it on, and also from that view it looks a little underpacked. The charcoal taste is definitely from cheap QL

I concur from the looks of your shisha in that bowl.

takes some time and really read on here for some good advice. just some quick suggestions, place 2-3 coal on the rim of the bowl. fluff up that shisha really nice. and wash the hookah out . i'm sure you should be better once you do that.

2-3 quick lights on a bowl that small is way too much.

You can get a decent smoke from near any coal....your problem is the shisha is geting too hot, thus burning.

You either need to move the coal more towards the rim of the bowl, or to use less coals and a windcover (you can ghetto-rig one out of aluminum foil...use your foream and fist to shape it....wrap the foil around your forearm/fist, then make the seam.....slide it off the arm, then tear to appropriate height....put over bowl, and open/close the top to adjust heat level accordingly.

With a bowl that size, one round quick light split into thirds will do it. If you're using John's quick lights, I'd use 2.
