Some Questions

Recommended Posts

1st time poster

ive been smoking hookah for about a half year now, more actively the past couple months.

i have some questions though:

1: ive recently bought some different tobacco other than SB. i ordered the Al-Fakher watermelon but it seems like it burns faster than SB? or am i just crazy?

2: the water in the base of the hookah. is it suppose to get coloring from the oils from the hookah?

3: what the diffference between no name hookah & some brand name ones? would you get a better smoke? theres about a $40-50 gap between the two and was wondering if it was worth it.

4: the coals at a hookah lounge. the one i go to, the coals ash is very chalky and it seems to burn pretty good. is this practical from home hookahs? ive been using the japanese one and they are fine. burns much longer than the QL ones.

5: milk. ive been experimenting. ive filled the base with about 1/4 of milk because i heard it makes the smoke thicker and whiter. but it seems to affect the taste of the hookah after a while and the effects seems to wear off. is milk worth it?

6: i recieved a free funnel when i bought my tobacco. havent tested it yet but in your opinion, is it better than the regular round ones? & what does that mod do?

7: final question. which one would you prefer for parties: rotating 1 hose hookah or a regular 2 hose one?

thanks for your time for reading!

A. My experience of Starbuzz is limited. However it would be usefull to know more about what coals you use, how many and how you set your tobacco and foil!

2: the water in the base of the hookah. is it suppose to get coloring from the oils from the hookah?
A. Yes biggrin.gif

3: what the diffference between no name hookah & some brand name ones? would you get a better smoke? theres about a $40-50 gap between the two and was wondering if it was worth it.
A. Personally I've had LOTS of No-Name hookah's that smoke great. Possibly the cheaper one's might not have the long term durability of a 'named' hookah. But don't guarantee on it. Again throw us some links and folks will take a look!

4: the coals at a hookah lounge. the one i go to, the coals ash is very chalky and it seems to burn pretty good. is this practical from home hookahs? ive been using the japanese one and they are fine. burns much longer than the QL ones.
A. Depends on the coals. Japanese style coals are just fine - But which brand do you use?

5: milk. ive been experimenting. ive filled the base with about 1/4 of milk because i heard it makes the smoke thicker and whiter. but it seems to affect the taste of the hookah after a while and the effects seems to wear off. is milk worth it?
A. Coconut milk - not cows milk!!!!! Also it's down to personal taste.

6: i recieved a free funnel when i bought my tobacco. havent tested it yet but in your opinion, is it better than the regular round ones? & what does that mod do?
A. The Funnel bowl was Originally designed to be smoked with the Tangiers brand tobacco which requires little heat. Other tobacco's didn't smoke so well with the air being drawn straight down the shaft. The Mod covers the shaft and forces the air down through the tobacco and then down the shaft.

7: final question. which one would you prefer for parties: rotating 1 hose hookah or a regular 2 hose one?
A. Two Hose. I don't like the rotators!

thanks for your time for reading!

Welcome to the Forum man - see my answers above. As to online retailers there are lots. We have a vendor review section and have a read of folks experiences.

havanna blows its the worst shisha ive ever had, aso my opinion people may like it idk. phennuls are amazing but i also love my egyptions you have to experiment and see what you really like, for personal sessions i love my egyption but for more than 3 people i love my phunnel and dont get a rotator or a 2 hose get a nice single hose, try KM or mya, al fakher should burn longer than SB but thats just what ive founds other will argue, its all a matter of preference. and for online vendors hookahjohn, hookah-shisha, hookah company, thehookah, got hookahs and sothsmoke are all great vendors and MNhookah ive ordered from all and they havent let me down, just promise that whatever you do stay away from hookah hookah, and hookah freak tobacco

1. Watermelon flavors vary somewhat. The sweeter they are, the faster they burn. I would imagine that the Starbuzz would burn faster based on their flavor profile, but its not certain...so, no you're not crazy.

2. Thats from artificial coloring in the tobacco. Yes it will get that way.

3. In some cases yes, in some cases no. Check to see what people like around here for a better answer to that question. The big problem with no-name hookahs is that its not hard for the seller to change the manufacturer and the quality without you knowing. A brand-name hookah has to protect its own reputation.

4. There is no best coal. Try some and see what works best for you and your situation.

5. Milk-Avoid.

6. I think they're better, but I invented them. The mod allows you to put less tobacco in the bowl without the problem associated with a less-than-full pack of tobacco. The foil will get sucked down over the phunnel hole without the mod if the bowl isn't more or less full.

7. Neither. A regular one hose is the superior choice.

8. Havana has some good aspects of it, but I believe Starbuzz to be generally superior. I haven't tried either one, they could be identical, for all I know.

Between JD and Sonthert, you're in good hands. Ditto to everything they said.

Welcome to the forum, and best of luck!

+1 I was about to type out my answers, but realized they were very similar to JD and Sonthert's. I would like to add that you should get a Tangiers phunnel. I own a small Tangiers phunnel and it works amazing. I have heard way too many horror stories of people buying chinese phunnels and them not working properly. I use CH QLs for coals and they work very well for my situation as I cannot light my coals in a burner.

As far as hookahs, I would suggest posting some that you are looking at and ask what everyone thinks of them.

thanks for all the replies guys.

as for the coconut milk, is it worth it? what are your experiences with it?

as for the charcoal im currently using its these
http://www.southsmoke.com/pd_japanese.cfm
i was using the japanese-style ones (made in china) i bought from a local shop before and thought i would try the authentic ones (made in japan). theres no real difference as far as i can tell. i think i might just stick to the made in china ones because they are cheaper.

how are products like these?
http://www.southsmoke.com/pd_ceramic.cfm
i think the screen cover seems like such a time saver and convenience. of course foil is probably the best..

here are some hookahs im pondering to buy (since you guys all recommend a single hose vs rotating & 2 hoses).

theyre all MYA's as its probably the most frequently mentioned brand of hookah on the forum. theyre probably all budget hookahs but i dont really want to splurge hundreds of dollars on my first real hookah.. yet tongue.gif

I just recently got my own Tangiers phunnel, and they are amazing, would not trade it for anything.

Welcome to the forum, and trust me, just read a lot of the posts and you will learn a lot without having to ask questions because someone else might have already asked it.
