Buying My Third Hookah. Mz Or Temsah?

Recommended Posts

I try to make as few hookah-related purchases as possible, and now I'm running dry on shisha (last order was in march). Since shipping alone almost reaches 100$, I try to buy as much as possible (withing reasonable boarders) for every purchase. Summer's coming to an end, I'm moving to a new city, and I'm planning on making a big order withing a week or so. It'll include about 3kg of Nakhla and 1kg of Tangiers. Seeing how this will already be an expensive order, I've decided to buy a hookah as well (if I'd want to buy one separately later it'd cost about as much for shipping as it would for the hookah itself).

I already own a KM Hafa, which is my goto hookah. I also own a Nour Bohemian, which is pretty good, I guess, but not quite up there with the Hafa. I also own a Mya QT, but I never use it, so I don't count that in.

I was thinking about getting a MZ. This or this. I've heard good things about them, and since I already have a KM that I love (besides, I hear the KMs that's being exported to the US is very inconsistent now a days) I don't need another one. But I'm also interested in this Temsah from HookahJohn. I don't know the first thing about Temsah. Are they any good?

Another thing is I'd prefer a stem out of brass. Guess all of the hookahs I've linked has steel stems? Also: I want reccomendations purely based on smokeability. Looks hardly matter to me. For instance, I don't think the Perpetual River is a beaut, but I've heard good things about it's preformance.

Also 2: If I order from gothookahs I have to drop the kilo of K-peach I was planning to order (when will they start selling Tangiers?). This I won't have to do if I order frm HookahJohn. But as previously said, the preformance of the hookah is the main priority.

Thanks.

Personally I like the look of the double pear, but not many people if any on here have a temsah, so it might be cool to do that too although Eric's initial testing brought less than stellar reviews. Whatever you want to get man lol. I do prefer the height of the temsah though.

True about Erics feedback. But I saw a pretty positive youtube-review. Oh well, might go for the MZ, if it's good. MZ doesn't have the same problem with inconsistency that KM has? Also, the stem being steel, how will this differ from my hookahs with brass stems? Rusting if I don't dry it properly after washing it, but is that it?

I dunno about the rusting part, my KM Amoura is fresh and clean and I don't dry after washing, I just let it air dry. It'll be lighter in weight and so perhaps more susceptible to dings and dents. Can't think there are any other negatives. I didn't notice however that the Temsah is solid core and I gotta say for whatever reason I looooove heavier solid core pipes they just feel steadier.

I got my midsize solid brass pipe first and use it more often than the Amoura so I guess I, in your shoes, would go with the temsah.

Hmmm. I'm growing on this AF hookah. Any difference in preformance between the 24", 30" and 40"? And Arcane, since you have one, are you satisfied?

Thanks for the help folks!

I also have the large solid and it is SOLID. The one you like will be lighter and hollow core, hence the name AF large light. But again I think that's just personal preference.

I handled one of the ones you like at a local shop and it's badass. I'm sure you'd love it, they look even nicer in person.

Oh wow, I didn't even see the "light"-part. Sure am glad I posted it here in stead of buying on impulse, I've always prefered heavier hookahs.

So right now I'd say it's between Al Fakher Large Solid, the MZ Double Pear and the KM Masha'al.

I'm more uncertain than ever. As I said, I already have both an Egyptian and a Syrian. The Hafa is my goto, but the Nour is also superb. A natural choise would be the MZ, I guess, since I'd then have a KM, a MZ and a Syrian. But to be honest, the red and the white MZ Double Pear that John offers really doesn't appeal to me when it comes to looks (I know, I know, here I was all like "preformance is everything". Guess that was BS from my side. I really liked the blue version, though, but it seems like he's all out of them)

Beauty-wise I'd range them: 1# AF 2# KM 3# MZ. Preformance-wise I have no clue. I have great experience wth my KM, but I hear good things about MZ. Wish there was a wider range of MZs to choose from at HookahJohn.

But narrowed down to these three hookahs, what would you guys pick? The AF is a beaut, but I think my Nour Bohemian is just as good looking, so unless it's on-par with the MZ and KM preformance-wise I'd chose one of the latter. Damn, wish I could buy all three.

ok...so i received the AF Large Solid Hookah...and it looks really nice from a distance. however, i have some complaints so far....

1) the grommet i comes with doesn't sit flush with the vase and stem, which causes it to lean a bit.
2) the bottom part of the stem (the silver section that looks like an hourglass), is loose and can be twisted along the skinny part...
3) the gold stuff on the base is fairly faded/rubbed off...it has a few bubbles

that's about it for the negatives that i know of right now. i don't know how it smokes yet, soooo...yeah, can't really comment on that.

a few positives though:

1) the stem is heavy....and sexeh!
2) its airtight
3) the trays are nicely etched too

can't comment about the mashal or the mz double pear...

but, here's a quick rundown on my MZ Kairo: everything is good except the top of the base is slanted. like, where the stem sits on the base is actually at an angle and makes the stem lean noticeably. i do like how the tray fits snugly and securely on the stem. it doesn't just sit on a platform and wobbles around.

the tamseh wheat hookah that i have is a tank, has one of the nicest bases i've seen (although, i'm very partial to red) and the tray is nice - yet very light. it's about the same build quality as a KM, just don't know how it smokes. Edited by Arcane

Thanks for the feedback. Still not sure, afraid of the KM's inconsistency, the MZ is not my favorite MZ, and the Tamseh doesn't have a lot of reviews yet. I'm this close to just buying a Perpetual River from GH.

there really is no KM inconsistency ... some are just made better than others depending on who made it.

I've had 5 KM's all of them were fine except the heart of a lion (the small tiny 21 inch or whatever it is km, their smaller ones are junk) ... as long as you get a KM with a brass heart ... you will be just fine.

  • 2 weeks later...
Thamseh being supposedly one of the ones making stuff for KM. I have become more doubtful of this recently, but who knows? I see a lot of two and even a few three piece main tubes in them.

MZ is supposedly out of business. He's making tea-sets according to the scuttle-butt.
