vegasvic
The other day I noticed that my AF Syrian was smoking very loosely. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the downstem had a long split, approximately 75% down its length (see below).Has anyone ever had this happen before? Am I screwed, or can this be repaired? redjako
Contact the vendor immediately, document everything, get the ball rolling.
RingsMaster
yeah get on them about that it looks like the seal where they weld the pipe was broken somehow, whatever it is is manufacturer defect, that should get you a new one
no longer welcome
da, how long have you had this hookah and how many times did you use it? what kind of syrian. if it came like that then yes it's a vendor issue, if it's months old then that's a tough call, it just depends how your vendor will want to deal with it, some will some wont. indian_villager
The thing is once you have smoked from it you can no longer get a refund. Some will offer repairs. Go to your local welding shop and get them to weld it. It just looks like it was welded badly. If not free it should not cost your more than $5 to get it fixed. delSol_si
I have honestly never seen a welding shop. Might solder work?
annual
Some of the new syrian brass's have reported having weak downstems and tubes that sometimes will split. Good luck
indian_villager
Solder will not. Google it for areas around. Or you can call autobody shops. But I honestly would look for some form of welding or welding supply shop around you. There should be one in most places.

But I honestly would look for some form of welding or welding supply shop around you. There should be one in most places.Solder would work because the downstem does not require much strength at all. An experienced solderer would be able to easily fix that with lead free solder. Hard solder or brazing alloys would be a better choice and is actually how the AF is constructed. It is not welded as it is commonly said to be.Personally I wouldn't bother trying to get that thing rewelded because it's not really worth it. If you are a good solderer/brazer, have at it, otherwise patch it up with some cheap JB weld and start smoking again once it's cured. If you've brazed before but are still a little hesitant, here are some tips I posted in another broken hookah stem thread.
Sonthert
I have seen that in some Syrians...never in a AF, though. Sucks. Call them, see what they'll do...
combs08
I would call them first and see if there is anything they can do. If not, go to a welding place.
AmunRa
I had a buddy that had a Syrian pipe from Israel do this once. I soldered it up for him, and it works well now. I wrote a "how-to" DIY thread on repairs similar to this a long time ago. Check the DIY section of the forum, or PM me if you want to try this yourself. It won't look awesome, but with some effort, you could fix it relatively easlity if getting a repair/replacement falls through.
RingsMaster
i was thinking maybe he could just get electric tape and wrap it all the way down the stem! what do you think it would be a quick fix until it can be taken care of

redjako
How long for the crack?Seriously, give the vendor hell, make a review, contact AF, etc. Screw DIY if you haven't already exhausted the vendor, since you may mess it up even more.
