mattarios2
Issue one : I went away on a vaca for a week and when i got back i was getting little black pieces in my mouth. I haven't gotten any in the last 3-4 sessions and the smoke tastes fine. Is it possible to get pieces if the hose sits for a while and moisture builds up in the hose ends? In the past when my hoses have bit the dust the black pieces got worse and worse after every session. I always blow through the hose before and after smoking, and i never put too much water in the vase . Just looking for opinions :is it possible to get pieces and not have a busted hose, yes or no?If it is kicked (i will find out eventually, i am gonna unstich the ultimate hose and wrap it around a home made vinyl hose.Issue two : Does anyone actually clean out their purge valve port? I use it once every other session give or take so i don't really find a need. Especially seeing i have a brass heart so no rust will build up in there. Thanks fellas

Zinite
Hose:My first KM hose had black stuff come out of it, and it just got worse from there. My 2nd KM hose started having black shit come out of it... I tossed it in the closet assuming it was done for. About 3 months later I tried it again and it was fine. Weirdest stuff...Purge valve: I usually run water through it. I've noticed that my QT purge valve has started to "stick" lately. It becomes stuck in the closed position, or if I take it apart and pop the ball out, it won't close when inhale. I took it all the way apart and soaked it in alcohol and CLR and it works better than ever now.
Stuie
I just regular pipe cleaners for the purge. When i start getting flakes, hose gets remade or thrown in the trash.
pretender
I've got a MYA - purge valve takes almost no time to clean since it comes apart. Scrub the ball bearing, wipe out the cavity it sits in, and run some water through the top section with the air ports - no biggie. If that isn't an option - I dunno, everything I have encountered comes apart for cleaning - just soak it in any kind of decent cleanser, or even water, and you should be okay.Hoses - It's my opinion that if anything but smoke is coming out of them, they need to be trashed *right now* - I've killed one, the g/f's killed one - generally the rust is a red dust that blows out in our cases. I can see no other reason than the internal stiffener winding rusting for flakes like that - it is a waterpipe; 99% of tars, etc, etc should never hit the downtube. In fact, if you're getting large flakes I don't want to know how far gone it is - it would have to be pretty bad since the wire in them is roughly like the binding on notebooks.Otherwise - it could be glue used to hold the ends on the hoses....I have my doubts since everything I've seen so far is hot glue, but it's possible.Best of luck, and no smoking rust! Get a Nammor or sommat. And if you aren't absolutely sure about washability, avoid getting water in your hoses. Ever.(Redundant, I know. Sorry!) ilikemyusername
put a garden hose on the part the bowl sits on, turn on the water and watch out!thats the easiest way i know of to thoroughly clean a hookah inside and out.and yes, it will clean a purge valve. dizzbizz
I've had some standard hoses that rusted on me. They never got better so I modded them into a homedepot hose. Best thing I've done yet.But I just rinse out the purge valve for good hygiene. I couldn't see it causing any trouble other than the steel ball sticking. Thats why I switched to an air soft pellet. Is it humid where you live? Hoses always get moisture in them after you smoke them but I believe they dry out after based on the humidity.QUOTE (mattarios2 @ Aug 4 2009, 09:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Issue two : Does anyone actually clean out their purge valve port? You wont find rust in the purge valve but you will find other residue in there if you do not clean it.

Mine's got a common chamber - all that does is rinse out the thing from where the bowl sits to the downtube. And - garden hose? You must have a big one. Either I'm lucky or stupid - I have a tiny little bugger with a healthy sized vase - when I get done smoking I disassemble the whole thing and clean it out. Only issues I've really had were the vase or the tube going into it from sitting. Rest cleaned up fine, despite it being a really rough brass casting inside the thing.Yeah, purging it isn't great but I just try not to burn my shisha and otherwise it's a waste of good smoke. And get a glazed bowl if aftertaste bothers you. Mine isn't on the inside, and it does wreak some havoc - good thing I'm stuck on a few favorite - and complimentary - flavors.
