the one freeman
Hello everyone, I'm new to this whole online hookah deal. Ive been going to hookah bars for some time now, and finally bought my own while on a trip to new york city. I found this hookah down in China Town, and it, a pack of instant coals, and a 50g box of al waha pina colada, cost me only $60.http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/the...an/MYHOOKAH.jpgI was wondering if you guys could tell me about my setup, maybe what type of hookah it is. Ive since gotten some square coals with the silver layer on them. im been looking to get more serious, with a new bowl, better coals, and good tobacco. any suggestions? Zinite
Looks like a standard no name Chinese hookah. $60 sounds about right. Nothing great, but you can get it to smoke pretty damn well if you perfect everything else.Pick up a Tangiers Phunnel - http://www.hookahjohn.com/product.sc?produ...p;categoryId=12Small if you smoke by yourself, Medium if you smoke in a group. The square coals with silver on them are called Japanese coals. Are they Diamante brand? They aren't bad. Most people here prefer Coconut coals, but for all intensive purposes, Jap coals are good too.Good tobacco - Nakhla, Al Fakher, Fusion, Tangiers, Tangiers Lucid... there's a few other ones that are worthwhile, but for the most part, there's a sea of crappy tobacco out there. The biggest suggestion I have is that you stay on the forum. It seems like 90% of people post a question or two then never come back. Stay awhile - it takes a good amount of time to start getting perfect sessions every time.

joytron
the coals are probably a chinese version of japanese coals, I would suggest coconaras as they have worked really well for me. I would def. invest in a phunnel and egyptian bowl, and a washable hose for yourself. Zinite has some really good advice although I would skip the fusion, never really liked that brand. Read lots of reviews and then make a decision.

fineout
just know that when you start getting something you think is ash in your mouth when you breath in, its not ash thats rust from your hose..just forewarning you. if it works for now great, but i wouldnt count on them lasting if you keep putting water in it.anyway welcome to the board and stay a while

delSol_si
Zinite had some excellent advice for you. I would stay away from alcoholic flavored shisha, most of them are far from what they are supposed to taste like and just taste like absolute shit. For example, I like margaritas, so I ordered a 50g sampler of Layalina margarita. It was disgusting. It taste like pinesol. But ya, until you get packing methods down good I would suggest sticking to a baccy that is relatively hard to fuck up, possibly Layalina. Smokes great and is hard to screw up. Once you get heat management and packing techniques down, move up to Tangiers, lucid I suggest. And, as everyone else said, get a Tangiers phunnel. Don't buy the chinese phunnel, stick with Tangiers.
