Want A Larger Hookah, ~30"

Recommended Posts

I'd like a new hookah. Something large to complement my MYA QT. This would be my 5th hookah purchase. 3 of those hookahs are no more (Plain Turkish hookah. Generic Egyptian, Tasqeem Stargate (which was a big thing on the forum for a while). Mya is the only one that lasted almost 3 years now, and still going strong.

My requirements are: large, ~30" would be awesome. 2 Hoses. Good build quality and easy to clean are a must too. While i take care of my hookahs, I am not anal retentive. Something that can go through a dishwasher on occasion would be an important quality too.

How does the larger KM hookahs compare to the MYAs? I love MYA bases, but the KM stems look great (has anyone tried mixing and matching). What about hoses? My MYA hoses are now dead after couple years of use (metal core rusts and breaks). I don't want to spend more then $200 on everything.

I like the fact that MYAs are machined and use a sufficient quality metal to stand up to abuse (something that wasn't the case with a Tasqueem stargate as it was also machined but a shitty metal).

I'd like to hear from folks who owned both a Mya, a KM or another brand and how it compares to each other. Edited by Speeder

Well, I have several MYAs a KM and a couple no-name egyptions. I will say I use my QT more than anything else. Mostly because its so easy to clean an it doesn't take up much space.

If you are looking for a larger hookah a KM is probably a better choice, mostly because large MYAs are expensive.

If you do buy a KM, I'd recommend going for ones that have a brass heart, personally I love the Kafae...

if you want something that will go into the dishwasher, then i don't think you'll find a 30" KM...as far as i'm aware, no KMs that i've seen disassemble. maybe a Mya Colossus would suit your needs.

as far as KMs comparing to Myas...i only have a QT and the draw on it could be better, but it's still good. the draw on my KM is ridiculously loose. i love them. you might want to look into MZs too. i own the Kairo, but haven't smoked out of it yet. from the looks of it, it should be about the same as the KM...even the welds are cleaner than some of my KMs.

pick yourself up a washable hose like the Grand Caravan...or John's new Narbish or Narbeesh. those look like nices hoses too. a KM or MZ, plus a washable hose should keep you well under $200. if you're looking to get a Mya...you may get really close to that $200 cap.

The AF solids will smoke better than Myas as will any other good Syrian if that's what your asking. They won't purge quite as easily as a KM because of the size of the purge holes but those can be enlargened if you are handy with a drill. There are no 2 hose AF hookahs though. If you can get past the hose thing, I would recommend any of the AF solids or a brass core KM, ie Trimetal, Kafae, etc.

As for the vases, I do not know of any Mya vases with large enough openings. A KM will definitely not fit any of the threaded ones.

I own Myas and KMs, and they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Both are excellent pipes as far as quality and smoking are concerned. To me, the only realy difference is aesthetics. If you like the traditional style, get a KM. If you like the Mya and the ability to easily add hoses, get a Mya.

Both have stems that are solid. My KM stem doubles as a walking stick. bs1.gif

Its always a question of when a pipe dies rather than if, so you should plan ahead for what to do when the pipe dies. KMs make better doorstops than Myas when the pipe dies.

I have a number of brass doorstops for sales, if anybody's interested. laugh.gif

I have had a lot of MYA pipes as well as KM's and MZ's ... so far the only one that died was a KM ... The KM was about 3 years old and developed a nasty leak at the hose port... it was kinda Like a Mashal but without the bucket (honestly don't remember what it was called) I tried patching it numerous times, and even re-welding it but it would just leak somewhere else i.e. purge valve, random places on the stem. I loved the pipe but honestly if this becomes a debate of durability I'd would honestly suggest a MYA... only thing that ever goes wrong with them is the stupid O rings on them eventually wear out which is annoying but easily fixed, and honestly only break when you take them apart all the time... In terms of usability I honestly like KM, MZ, MYA and Nour for different reasons... they all smoke very well and will make you happy...

Hookahcompany has the KM hafa back in stock. Get it while you can. For $90 it is a steal. The working parts such as the center tube, hose port, and purge valve are all brass so it can't rust. I have had mine for two years and it is still going strong. Pick it up, you will not regret it.

Anyonw know of another good place to get a Hafa. Hookahcompany makes it look like they are in stock, but if you try and check out with one in your cart it says they are out of stock.

wow, this thread went down a couple pages.

Okay, so I'm going to go with a KM style hookah. I've been buying everything from mnhookah for past 2 years - who else has a good selection?

thehookah.com has a bunch of KM's

hookahjohn.com has a better selection IMO.
