Click
That's disturbing. Once a great coal and now continued bad batches. Less dense and random filler. Not a good way to keep loyal customers.
r1v3th3ad
I guess trying to decrease production costs and raise profit marginwhat I'm wondering is if its recycled wood...like used 2x4s with the nails and staples still in them and stuff of that nature

I remember when exotica was a great coal, I always will.nothing lasts forever even cold november rain....

redjako
Good lord..this will soon turn into the Rat in a Coke bottle thing I noticed my last 3 boxes were bad, upon lighting it was shorn through with cracks, would hop off the plate, crumble all over the bowl, etc.Since I love exotica's though (Jap's my favorite but they are damn pricey), please let us know if you find a good replacement. Spats
Always, remember the bottom line! Everything is made from the lowliest people on theface of the earth for the MOST profit to the end seller/middle man... Hoses made fromdiscarded newspapers and farmers profits that dropped over 50% while milk prices soaredto +150% + and who can guess on a hose... At this point a 3rd world "citizen" (the actualmanufacturer) doesn't even factor in...I smoke (meats and cheeses) a lot of foods and could give you nightmares with the stuffmade into charcoal that shows up! Bulldog_916
I've found screws and shards of metal in some of the starlight bamboo coals. I still like them, none of the rust or metal is going to get through the water. So I just keep smoking. Exoticas have fallen some, but I still havent had a bad box. I think it's mostly high expectations in the hookah world. You get a box of coconaras and go crazy at how good they are then you get a box of exoticas or easy lites or whatever coconut coals you can find cheaper because you cant afford the coconaras then you complain that the other coals arent of good quality. You're getting what you pay for. I expect good things from exoticas and I get them. I expect lesser quality in bamboo naturals and I'm generally not disappointed by them at all. They are good coals, just have some quality control issues. I expect, in natural coals, to have something like nails or screws to show up once in a while. They come with real wood. I guess my point is to TAILOR your expectations with charcoal. It's never going to be perfect until the day you have an electric coal that you can completely control. Until then, buy what you want, but dont be all surprised if it isnt of amazing quality. I have tried many and only liked a few. Comes with the territory. kdkhookah
Personally, I've never encountered anything in my Exoticas. Though, I have only been through three boxes, and as of now I have a few boxes of Coco Naras. So I'm pretty stocked for a while, but if this is a continuing trend, there's no telling what could be in them the next time I order a box. liquidglass
Well while some people may put Exoticas down, I still can't get the same session with cocos that I can with them. I'm with Bulldog on this one. Also find my post about exoticas improving if you get a chance everyone. I've noticed a vast improvement in this box over the my last few, harder to break, white ash again, lasting longer and stronger, not crumbling, all the good things
mattarios2
only time will tell if you were lucky and got an older batch or if those were new and they are actually improved.

newjacksm
Mush I would call and complain to Exotica. That may be detrimental to ones health.
mushrat
Oh, i was apparently among a number of people who complained about the general quality and lo and behold, the new improved versions. I've tested 2 fingers of the new version. A little harder but not like they used to be, white ash with no cracking or brown shit, last about the same as the unimproved ones though they are noticibly denser. I go through about 3 boxes a night so i have a wider sampling than most folks.I guess I'll see what happens when the improved version gets to my distributor.
