Canon
I got a shitload of exoticas a while back (4-5 months ago). about 16-17 boxes total. after almost going through all of the boxes I have determined that the newer ones are pieces of shit, they are light in weight, they break way too easily (in the video posted below i broke 2 exotica coals into 5 pieces and 1 more into 4 pieces). 5 pieces of exoticas have popped on the coil burner causing burns on my floor and my cabinets. the ash on exoticas is very fine and has a bad color off of it. They also do not burn as hot, i use about 2x the coal i used to use with tangiers. after i finish off my last boxes of exoticas i will not go back, and I encourage all forum members to do the same for safety reasons (who wants a coal to pop off the burner and catch something on fire?) its happened to me 5 times in less than 16 boxes.Video of me breaking exoticas into 5 pieceshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgT975nADIoNow saying that, what hookah coals to go with?Coco's? CH coals?

annual
ShishaCo. Coconaras too expensive. Thehookah stopped their promotion on the buy 1 get 1 for shisha co's but PM if you want a site selling CH nats and instants for 7.95.
delSol_si
See, I have never used Exoticas, but I don't understand why people keep using them if they are shit. I can't believe mushy is still using them after all the shit they put him through.
newjacksm
Yeah I couldn't believe how light they are now the new box I picked up is like a feather. Edited August 9, 2009 by newjacksm

They give off so much heat you have to crack them, even for high heat tobaccos like nakhla i need to crack them.Hands down cocos ftwIf price doesn't matter ... seeing you are a tang smoker ... i'd prob vote golden canaries. redjako
I've found Coco's to work much better by lighting them, then busting them into halves so they don't give off so much heat.
Jeff_T
I'm down to the last 4 coals from my CH naturals, and have to say I was very impressed with them. Most sessions I use 4 coals (2 at a time) and it lasts about 3hrs. I'm pretty sure they're the same price as cocos, but I think there are more in the box. I'd say their only con would be the smell when lighting, but I light outside, so its not really a problem. But yeah, exotica IMO = fail. Its to bad because they used to be great coals at a great price...
Showtime07
I have never had a problem with Exoticas, I really like them. But it has been a few months since i used them, back in Seattle I have not found anyone local selling them.Has anyone tried the new Exotica Golds? ilikemyusername
I am truly impressed with the CH ql's, they're badass.I start them with a bic and hold them with tongs and the flames just FLY off them, they light quick, taste good and last about 40 minutes or so, you should pick up a box and see. liquidglass
Canon I'm not sure you and I are using the same coals bud, esp if you got them 4 or 5 months ago. IMO you didn't get any of the "new" coals you're actually a little behind. I get fresh coals every 2 weeks to a month and the ones I got last week are stellar compared to the crumbly ones. white ash, much heavier boxes (compared two side by side), better texture, harder to break, aka more dense. This haven't crumbled, exploded, or popped once since I got them and I smoke through almost a box a week (not as much as mushy) but a good amount. Not saying they are the redeeming of the first exoticas but it's the closest I've seen to them in a while.
mattarios2
well performance is biased i guess its based on an opinion. I just found cocos to last longer, and i was only saying what i said because you made it sound like that you will always buy shishaco ... the deal is over for buy 1 get 1.when the deal went on i bought them as well and was far more impressed with the cocos ... to each his own i just find it funny people say they are so expensive when they aren't expensive at all if you buy a few boxes. liquidglass
Actually he was right, he just typed his numbers up wrong. (i know that sounds retarded)The Shishacos come in 100 pieces per box which if you divide 12.50 by that you get 12.5 cents per coal. So I'm guessing his mind just sort of wandered when typing that number.

Sonthert
$11.33/84 is $.135 per piece (or $.134 depending on your rounding).$12.50/84 is $.149 per piece (or $.148 depending)My math checks out with Zinite's. $12.50/84 isn't $.125 or 12.5. Unless its 100 pieces per box. Then, its 12.5Golden Canaries are $15/96 pieces or .156. They are well worth the extra $.007 Hey Canon. Golden Canaries. Buy them. Love them. Its the same thing. mushrat
I have gotten 2 pieces of the new and improved exoticas. The seem a lot denser, the ash is white like it''s supposed to be, and they didn't crack or split on the burner or the hookah. I'm going to be getting some of the new ones in my next order next week and i'll let you all know.
mix_tape
The great coal debate. I use cocos but I'm open to trying other naturals. As for QL I can't stand to go back but I'm hearing good things about CH QL. Interesting to read everyone's opinion on this defiantly makes me want to try different ones and see which one works the best.
vqturbo
Was never really a fan for exoticas, i liked coco's more...Maybe i'll try out the new ones. Looking to how they turn out for mushrat.
