Antique Bamboo Hookah

Recommended Posts

I've got a very old hookah that I inherited from my grandfather when he died. It's been in my possession for a number of years but all I know about it is that it came from somewhere in the vicinity of India/Iran (I think). The base appears to be cast bronze with intricate designs on the outside but the hose and stem are bamboo. The "hose" goes straight up before bending at the height of the bowl (which is carved from wood) and is tied to the stem with natural fibers. Both pieces of bamboo are wrapped decoratively with thread and something shiny like foil in some places. A pair of tongs is tied to the bowl by natural fibers and this set-up sits in the base by means of what I can only describe as a large fabric cork. This has to be soaked in water before smoking to get an airtight seal. The whole thing is about 2 feet high at the bowl and the "hose" extends another foot or so at a 40 degree angle from the horizontal. Any information about this hookah would be much appreciated. I will post a picture as soon as I find my camera.
