RingsMaster
ok so tonight i had some nakhla coffee which is supposed to be loaded with flavor, well smoke was good and the taste was less than par and all my nakhla sessions seem to be this way and im starting to think im not getting it fully acclimated, i spread it out on foil and let it sit for a good 24 hours, it smells amazing but taste is less than par, any suggestions guys? antouwan
in a thread a while back eric was talking about acclimating baccy in the tub you were storing it in, not spread out on foil or seran wrap or something. also don't constantly leave it open. just acclimate it for a few hours and then for just a bit before smoking. best of luck! Arcane
hmmm...imo, nakhla has a good balance between smoke, buzz, and flavor...neither of which will overwhlem the other. however, if you want to try to coax more flavor out of the tobacco, i find either more heat or a denser pack + more heat work for me.good luck! ilikemyusername
what kind of coals are you using?
dizzbizz
When I tried nak I packed it tight with a lot of heat too. I admit though, the flavor wasnt as intense as I anticipated
jezter6
Are you talking straight coffee or cappucino or something?Nakhla Coffee is very strong and potent, and even some of us die hard Nakhla smokers don't do it straight (I smoke it straight all the time because I love it). What's your packing technique and heat level? Also, I never acclimate Nakhla. Ever. And it smokes great almost every time with no real work.

I think there is a heat / packing issue. I have never acclimated Nakhla EVER.

I think there is a heat / packing issue. I have never acclimated Nakhla EVER.I've only had to acclimate Mizo mint once to get rid of a sour taste, other than that--never acclimated Nakhla. Speaking of crazy strong flavors, I have gone on an Earl Grey kick. Smoked it with a new hose and it destroyed the "new hose taste" that was plaguing it. Yum! twoapplesplease
You might have over acclimated it.And let it dry out.Next time instantly open nakhla and put in sealable container. Then just smoke it
Scoop
lol@ all the nakhla defenders.its cheap stuff....doesn't taste great ever. youre experiencing nakhla at its fullest and aren't happy...not surprising. some people like it, some dont. i dont know if youre really experiencing a problem is what im trying to get at
mustang_steve
Don't acclimate Nak, it will screw it up. I never put it in sealed containers...I just re-wrap it, stick it back in the foil baggie, fold the baggie and shove it back in the box in a way that the fold holds....all the seal I need for months of staying power. Here's my nak technique:1) NO PHUNNELS....I use an Egyptian with the largest holes I could find....mine has screwdriver shaft/pencil shaft sized holes in it. This seems to matter.2) Packing....pack it, not hard enough to impact flow, but enough to have it in there densely.3) foil..... thinner is better for Nak since it has a fine line between good smoke and burning. I use a single toothpick shaft sized central hole with rows of 3 holes coming off fom 8 directions, then 2 holes between every row.4) coals .....I use CH instants, two per bowl, let the corners overhang. As the smoke dminshes, don't ash, just place a coal cover over it....once it diminishes again, place 2 more coals on, ash the other two, and place the remaining lit coal on top of those pieces....then when it diminishes again, coal cover. Repeat until bowl is done. Don't mess with the coals otherwise unless burning occurs. There you go. Edited August 10, 2009 by mustang_steve

mattarios2
i disagree as well with you scoop, (you knew i wud)if people don't like it that's fine by me, but how can you say majority of their flavors aren't kick you in the face?cappucinocoffeecherrymintcardamomearl greycinnamondouble applechocomintfak mixed fruitsmandarinorangepistachiorosemelontropicana ... just to name a few off the top of my head.once again i can see you and others not liking the taste, but to say their flavors are weak is really a slap across the face to the hookah world as you and i know it!QUOTE (Arcane @ Aug 10 2009, 11:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>QUOTE (Scoop @ Aug 11 2009, 04:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>lol@ all the nakhla defenders.its cheap stuff....doesn't taste great ever. youre experiencing nakhla at its fullest and aren't happy...not surprising. some people like it, some dont. i dont know if youre really experiencing a problem is what im trying to get atsorry, gotta disagree with you. I agree, it's not "for everyone", no shisha is for everyone. But saying that it never tastes great is just as true as me saying it always taste great. Personally I think they have hits and misses, just like every other brand. But the consistency and price is enough to make me put it at #1, just in front on Tangiers.
