Universal Magnetic Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 was smoking in the theatre room with friends...got way smoky in there and when we opened the door all the smoke rushed out and set off the fire alarm...security company calls and the line gets disconnected while im trying to tell them everything is ok. they think something is wrong and send a fire truck over...that was a fun story. delSol_si Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 You know, I was thinking about smoking in my dorm room next semester, but hearing all these horror stories has be scared...1. the campus is a smoke free campus, smoking is only allowed in designated areas.2. there is a hefty fine for setting of the detectors, plus the fire truck automatically gets called if one goes off. liquidglass Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Normally hookah smoke WILL NOT set off a smoke detector. Because normally it needs to be "hot smoke" to trigger it. Like toast burning, etc. But if you get a smoke machine in there it won't set it off.So my advice is a little duck tape, or a portable fan pointed at the smoke detector to keep it clear. Until a creative ex who used to travel while smoking, showed me how he handled hotel rooms......... At the beauty supply store they have those cheapie shower caps, like 30 for $3.00, with elastic just like the ones hotels usually give you in the bathroom - which is probably how he came up with the idea.....Pop one over the detector and you're good to go.
