MikessekiM
I last smoked my hookah last thursday. I left the contents in it till tonight when I went to clean it out, which I am aware is a dumb thing to do. I noticed calcium deposit looking clusters scatter on the inside of the stem. Also, it looks like mold, but it doesnt smell at all and when I scratch it off it is almost chalky. Anyone know what the hell this is? I have had this before and still smoked with it with no problems. But it seems when I leave the water in the base I get these clusters....this common? foibled again
It sounds like you have hard water. If so, it's just calcium and magnesium salt deposits.
MikessekiM
I do have well water actually, but I switched to using purified water which is also doing this....
Arcane
you probably have hard water...its just leaving calcium deposits in your stem. best thing to do is just blow out your stem after you wash it...or, you can tie a piece of cloth to a long string, then drop then string down the stem and pull the cloth through.... If it's green/greenish blue and your stem tube is brass, then it is verdigris/patina/corrosion. Don't smoke out of the pipe without getting it off first as verdigris is poisonous. If it's white, then it's just calcium/magnesium deposits. Sonthert
Vinegar might remove it. Its calcium carbonate...from the ions naturally present in water.
