Fyi H-s Has Af Pipes And Coals

Recommended Posts

I saw this, and as someone who is considering making the jump to naturals I'm giving some serious thought to picking up some coconut naturals on my next order; anyone know if Al Fakher coals are worth the slightly heftier price tag here (17 cents a coal versus 15 cents a coal for Coco Nara)? I thought Coco Nara was supposed to be the best of the best of coconut coals as far as quality is concerned, so I was surprised to find that Al Fakher was more expensive after crunching the numbers. Sorry if this has been brought up before, couldn't find anything on Al Fakher coals in the review section.

Eh... you can't go wrong with Cocos. I wouldn't pay extra for Al Fakhers.

Awesome. I don't think I'll be buying a pipe from H-S, but I love to see them widening their selection. Especially since they are in Texas and not California, which shaves at least a day off of ship time to me.

I tried the AF lemonwood coals which were definitely not as good as cocos, they took longer to get the bigger chucks lit which ashed faster than cocos and didnt seem to produce as much heat. But never tried there coconut ones, guessing you should stay with cocos though.

Your saying shishacos are bad? I think they are great coals?!

Well here are my beefs with Shishaco.

1) Stink when lighting, just a hair under cheap chinese Jap coals. (My wife can tell from across the house if I am lighting cocos or shishaco by smell, if she smells it... SHISHACO!)
2) They start ashing all over my burner before they are half lit. (I bet 5% of the coal has completely ashed off before I even get them in the coal carrier)
3) According to the color of the ash it's got tons of fillers in it. (Brownish Grey is not a good color for ash, quicklights don't ash that color)
4) They ash like crap on my bowl. (They never ash the same way twice)
5) I am going to taste ash no matter what I do when I smoke them Even with a scalli mod on my phunnel.
6) Don't burn as hot as Cocos. 3 shishaco on a Mini Phunnel for Nakhla, 2 Cocos on a Mini Phunnel for Nakhla.

(1) Mine don't stink when lighting. They dont smell any worse than cocos?
(2) I somewhat agree, They do start to ash slightly before fully lit
(3) Can't argue against this, it is a brownish grey ash
(4) I think they ash pretty consistently
(5) I don't move the coals during my session and never taste ash
(6) They do burn cooler than coco's but I can throw a windcover on to make up for the loss of heat?

I think they are great coals, I think coco's are slightly better but not by much.
