Grrr To Coco Nara Problem

Recommended Posts

Ordered a Mya QT which will be 'my' first hookah.
While it's being delivered I have borrowed a friends Egyptian Pharaoh with the Genie base.
We've smoked it a few times and It's what got me hooked.

Problem is that I have a gas stove and a bunch of Coco Nara's. If I had some Romman Lemonwood everything would be fine due to the size of the gaps on my stove top covers. But it's a problem for the Coco Nara.

I don't want to buy a separate burner just for coals just yet. Especially since I don't know what coals work for me best. I don't want to buy any instalights. And I'm not tossing these little guys in my all clad coppercore.
So...

my question is this...
Can I use foil and toss them on the burner?

Not sure about the foil. If you have a grate that will not melt under the flame you can use that to place on top of the stove.

I have used a grate from the computer fan of a power supply on my computer before. It has worked quite well.

There was also a post earlier that a person put up as a grate you could use here is the link:

Aww, man... rolleyes.gif

I had posted earlier about using Home Depot 1/2" x 1/2" welded
wire mesh for a gas burner! Cut it to a 12 x 12 square and it should
fit any stadard burner. I can get Coco's "Pipe ready" in like 3 minutes
CH John's QL's in a minute or so!

Spend $10 at Walgreens and get a coil burner. It will keep your kitchen clean. You'll like Cocos, so it won't be a waste.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use foil if you didn't want to go out and buy anything else. I bought a butane burner from walmart and made a ring out of foil to place on the bottom so my coco's would be at the right height. Spats idea is pretty good to, just depends on if you want to go to the store lol

Well....
I am damn lazy....

His idea is good. It'd work out well too since I have a tin i use for ashing ciggerettes and trays close to where i'll be smoking out there. I could set it on that after they're ready.

I'm not a big fan of those burners. I would end up using it for nothing but this and then need a place to store it afterwords. It may be small but that with the addition of the tanks would take up just as much room as the QT. I'll probly use your idea Spats.

I dont see why I wouldn't be able to use foil either. I might try that also just to see what happens.
Never really placed foil dirrectly on to a flame for a long time though. Cant be any worse then a red hot piece of coal. I'm sure it's going to take for freak'n ever to heat those Cocos up though.

think 90 seconds will do it?
Man, that would save so much time.
Maybe I should wrap the foil around it before the microwave to speed it up even more!

I think i'm on to something guys!

You know they are talking about the walgreens burner? its an electric coil burner. Get it and dont screw around with anything else....your just wasting time. If your not going to use quicklites you will need something to light the coals regardless. It wont matter which ones you will use.

I tried placing foil down on my burner the first time I using cocos..it melts the foil...which is prolly not good for the coal..yourself and the burner.

As for the microwave idea....i dont see why it wouldnt work...but I wouldnt use it for anything else but coals after that point.

If your as lazy as you say you are. I heard of the people using a heatgun to light coals. This works great if you have one. Otherwise back to the first suggestion since these arent cheap.
