ProbablyTaken
Just got this KM yesterday, put about 3 or 4 bowls through it already, but I am noticing with some of them that I am getting a feel and taste to my smoke that is decidedly like the sour or flat feeling of soft water. I always noticed it because of the high mineral content of most of SLC's water, but I am using that high mineral content water in the base itself. It started when I ran a bowl of Nak DA through it, as the bowl came to an end it started to get this strange taste, now the next bowl being AF Cinnamon is also giving the same sour. It's killing my Cinnamon entirely, even killing the lightly sweet component that was in it before. I am using a different bowl than the DA last night, which was done in the Crown, this one is in my small Mya unglazed. I am also using an exotica today compared the belgian natural disc type I used last night.Any ideas?
Sonthert
Wow...look at all the help. Suck through the hose. See if the flavor's in there. Suck through the hookah without the hose, the head and with no water. See if the flavor's in there. Add water to the jar. Suck through the hookah hose port with water in, no hose, no head. See if the flavor's there. Now add the head without tobacco in, suck through the hose port. See if the flavor's there. If you have a Chinese Phunnel Rip-off bowl, its black gasket might be the source of this. Double check this gasket if you have a Chinese phunnel. Give it a smell. See if the smell/Flavor's in that gasket. You may notice a slight flavor in each step and then find a large increase when you add one component. This should tell you where the problem is. You might find the flavor is entirely in one thing. In summary, there are four sources of the bad flavor...the hose (which you can test separately) and then the hookah, the water and the head. If the flavor is persistent in each step, it may still not be your imagination. If the flavor is absent in each step, then add tobacco to the bowl and smoke it and see if its there again. If it magically arrives...then its the tobacco. Let us know...
ProbablyTaken
QUOTE (Sonthert @ Aug 14 2009, 09:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Wow...look at all the help. Thanks man. Confirmed its not the hose and I don't think its the bowl or the rubber as I have tried several of each. I did a bowl of Chocomint and the mint plus the following wash of the hose may have cleared it. I am not getting it only with my Tangiers in my knockoff phunnel with a silicone gasket, but I think I may need to acclimate another 12-24hrs still. The Tang flavor is Blue Gum Ball and I am still detecting a slight funk to it even after 36hrs, will put a few more bowls through it and see if it persists. ProbablyTaken
Nah, and whatever it was is gone now. I washed it thoroughly a few more times. I even pulled out some cheap vodka I was never going to drink and used that in conjunction with a stem brush, also cleaning the heart as much as I could each time. Now I just have to remember to make sure the hose gets washed occasionally and its wonderful. Thanks for the help guys.

At most hook it up to an air compressor or just blow through it yourself. You have a KM hose, I've yet to see a KM that's washable.
Santino
QUOTE (illadelph @ Aug 18 2009, 01:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>how would you know if your hose is washable? The Nammor, the Razan, the AF disposables, The Grand hoses or whatever, and the new Mya washables (as opposed to all their other hoses they claim to be washable but will rust.) All these hoses are washables, and probably a few others I'm missing. Most everything else will rust immediately. The one that came with your pumpkin, definitely not washable. ProbablyTaken
Thanks Santino, I haven't gotten around to it yet. I would use the Mya wide hose I got more, but it actually has a tighter draw than the KM. You have anything like a Nammor or Razan in stock? Sonthert
There are quite a few "washable" hoses that really aren't. Get a regular hose and be done with it. Regular hoses are great.
ProbablyTaken
I will probably just learn to live with the KM, I also have a Grand that I use on occasion as well. Maybe I will get around to making my own too.
