jdehart
I'm sitting around bored... wife's caught up in a book and no buds to smoke with.I normally don't care to Hookah alone, but I found that this could be a good time to play around with new things, so I did.I started rumbling through a box I ordered from Hookah-Shisha... I ordered a yellow KM that I thought looked pretty sharp, but I'm a bit disappointed looking at the base. It has yellow hearts painted on it, filled with gold glitter. I wished I noticed that from the picture before ordering, but after discussing the gayness with the wife, I think my plan is too remove the paint and hit the craft store tomorrow and try my own creativity with paints... I know that it sounds like a sin to scrap off a hand painted KM, but I have to do it. OK, I'm getting side tracked... when ordering the KM I also received some Romman shisha and QL Golden Coals, two items I've never tried before. OK, so I'm bored and I have new items, so I now have a good reason to pack a bowl. The Romman shisha is Rose... OK, too much gayness, so I'm not gonna fire up the new hookah with hearts... even though there are no witnesses, I'm not going to do it. I pull out my old faithful, a Al Fakher stem with a KM base. It's really a sharp set up... the KM base is red with black and gold paint. The gold paint goes well with the gold metal in the AF stem, and the big black KM hose really puts it together... I'll have to post pics, but I'm waiting for a couple new KMs from Hookah John for a group photo. I also have a hand engraved hookah I got from a Turkish shop when I was in Iraq that is pretty sharp, but I haven't used it because it is missing a seal for the bowl which is different from normal Hookahs, so I'll have to rig something.. OK, getting side tracked againI packed the Romman Rose in a Egyptian Clay, which is also new to me... I normally use a phunnel or a small deep dish, not sure what it is called. I put ice water in the base. The rose smell of the shisha had me scared, but I was curious, so I continued. Packed the Egyptian to just under the rim... I didn't pack it down, but not too fluffy either. Poked a bunch of holes, but kept them small. Fired up a couple coconara's and took the Hookah out to the back lanai to get comfy. My initial thought was that this flavor was too flowery for me... I know, what should I have expected? but I also recognized how smooth the smoke was... absolutely zero harshness. So I kept pulling and started thinking that I'm getting used to the flavor, or at least the smoothness is making it worth the effort. The clouds were nothing special, but it was a very easy smoke, and a no brainer heat management, the coals were perfect right where I set them. So I'm kicked back calling this a success, not one to really brag about, but it works. Then the wife comes out to check on me, and of course she knows that if she comes out to check on me while my Hookah is on, she has to at least try whatever flavor I have loaded. She pulled and made a sour face and said "it taste like soap". What? I snapped the hose back from her and excused her, but I'd be damned that every time I pulled after that, all I could think about was that it really did taste like soap. She ruined it, I was no longer enjoying the session, so I came inside to pack something else.I pulled out some Golden Layalina Chocolate Strawberry which is also new brand and flavor for me. I packed it the same way as the Romman, holed the foil the same, and fired up another couple of coco's. The flavor was pretty good, but the smoke was weak. I thought about my set up and considered that the Egyptian bowl was quite a bit wider than the smaller one I'm used to, so it probably could use more heat. I grabbed one of the QL Golden Coals for a quick heat fix. Oh man, the clouds was nuts after that. I had to call the wife out and did a deep pull for her, blew it out, then waited a few seconds till the smoke cleared before I could see her again. I even got a "whoah" from her. And of course the rules are that she has to at least try it, so she gave it one of those girly pulls just to humor me and admitted that it was pretty good, which is as good as it gets with her. So yes, I tried some new things with successes and failures... not a bad solo Hookah night in Hawaii.Aloha
Zinite
When you redo the vase, post some pictures. The KM vases are notorious for eventually flaking anyways. Make sure you put a clear coat on to protect your paint job. Congrats on the good session

contristo
pretty nice. i'm smoking one solo right now, which is not common for me but it's good while watching the yanks or something.i know what you mean about those "girl hits", even though i've probably seen more dudes take hits like that haha. my girlfriend is pretty funny when she smokes. she's so small but she exhales a chimney of smoke almost every time. if she's sitting down i can't see her behind the smoke
