PinkrMS
I'm working on a group project in my school's economy class. In it, we're supposed to choose a business and research the process of opening it, and my group chose a Hookah Cafe. Could someone inform me of the procedures of opening one in New York; such as the permits needed, start up costs, taxes, and the government regulations one must follow? mushrat
now, that would be doing all the work for you wouldn't it? I'd contact the NY dept. of comerce or a similar office in NYC and ask THEM. That way you'd actually get REAL answers, forms, etc instead of our guesses. Thats for permits etc. As for start up costs.....contact one of the hookah companies and ask about wholesale prices. You might also ask Tangiers VERY nicely. Also..try using our search engine. Use search words like "starting cafe" as this topic has been covered extensivly in the near past... bingtroy
also consider the fact that in the long run your fixed costs (i.e. lease, equipment...) won't make an impact on your profits, but if your variable costs (tobacco, utilities, wages...) exceed your revenues shut your store down. my 2 cents
Aggie Shisha
also look at the demographics of the area you will open it and competitors in the immediate area. Just an idea. Good luck! Sounds like a very fun project, sometimes I wish I would have minored in business... Thinking about going for an MBA with my J.D. though.
