Brandon`
Acually when your banned, there's no way to log off. Each time you go to the forum, it says that theres a board message and tells you when you will be unbanned, it doesn't let you do anything but scroll. If you click Log Out it will give you a message like an error has accurd or something like that. However it does let you read the pm the moderater sent you, well atleast the last one. It opens up in a different box and if you scroll slowly, you will see it.`Brandon

joytron
QUOTE (Sonthert @ Aug 22 2009, 12:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I can see smoke eater's point. I think that some of the posts people put on ban threads are in bad taste. Perhaps we could make a thread for each ban, but lock it, so people couldn't reply. If the intent of the thread is to inform the people they were banned, then a locked thread would suffice. The idea of one thread for all the bans is good, too. Maybe even sticky it. Make it repliable by mods and admins, but read-only for regular members. I won't doubt that it brings people together, but so did witch burnings. Do we alienate members and make them not want to come back after their ban? Do the gloating and rude replies on the threads make them feel unwelcome? Some people only made a simple one-time mistake. They might have made a great member. We might lose a new member to our togetherness. Togetherness isn't about excluding others, secret handshakes and closed arcane orders...its about being open and welcoming; making people feel part of a community.Just my thoughts......?...SHES A WITCH!I kinda feel the ban threads make this place elitist. Thanks for bringing that upQUOTE (HsK BATES @ Aug 22 2009, 12:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i just see it as little kids tattle telling to their parents about someones wrong doings. kinda immature.Actually, the immature act would be to join a community and not follow the guidelines set into place that you agreed to when joining. The proper thing to do is to report such violators to keep said community in order.Instead of thinking about it from a childish point of view, try an adult point of view (as we all have to be legal adults (not mental just legal lol) to join) Would reporting something to the police be immature or the proper thing to do? And if you still have doubts then I have another perspective. If you owned a store, and someone came in talking about illegal things, being loud, cursing, and overall not following your stores guidelines (like those signs that say: No Shirt, No Shoes, Fuck You) would you consider it immature to kick them out? Or even call the police if need be? Or would that be too childish and immature?

I think what people object to is the quasi-celebration, gloating and rubbing their noses in a ban that some people object to. Nobody is saying there shouldn't be bans or even ban threads. We're thinking aloud if there could be better ways of doing it. There's always room for improvement, right?
Sonthert
I think that some people who are banned might be a little confused by it and become embarrassed by it, especially reading what was said in their ban thread, after the fact. I remember when ZachSlusser was banned, it truly upset him. He knew he fucked up, but I think he was sorry in the first place. He's a good kid. Hope he comes back soon. NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
i agree with you, i think the best way to do it is when mush or the admins post that someone has been suspended/banned to lock it right away..so there will be no replies and no one has to feel embaraced or over whelmed and may not return.. Personally I never try to embarrass or add insult to injury in a ban thread but some of the worst actions have the best intentions. So I 2nd....or 3rd lol the motion to lock a ban thread. That way people won't have a chance to ask what happened etc etc.

delSol_si
I'm totally opposite of most people here. I like the ban threads and feel the more heckling and shit giving the better. If they can't take it, fuck em. My friends give me shit all the time, I just laugh along and blow it off. For example, I am 23 and still virgin, my friends give me shit all the time about it. I was building a cabin with my buddy and he goes "well, we are going to screw the drywall in tomorrow, you can't come since you don't know how to screw." did I care? no, fuck it. I was at work one day when I was still employed and there was a new girl in, I fucked up and spent the better part of my day starting at her tits and being creepy, my boss gave me hella shit about it, didn't bother me.Even if it is innocent mistake that people are giving shit about, the person needs blow it off or I feel that we baby people too much now a days. It seems like we, as americans at least, always have to protect everyone. What the fuck ever happen to letting people suffer a bit when they fuck up?ya, i am in a bit of a pissy mood today, but owell, fuck it.

Key word, ONLINE....meaning not the end of the world...meaning it isn't face to face real life...etc....If someone in real life that I saw everyday laughed at me and gave me shit when I failed out of college, lost my job, and so forth, I would be totally upset. Sonthert
I'm not the most sensitive person in the world, if I offend you, tough. On the other hand, I try not to go out of my way to be a dick. I think people have been doing that in the ban threads. I know who went out of their way to get banned, on the other hand. I don't buy the "Other people are assholes elsewhere on the internet, so we can be too." Thats not a good argument to allow outlandish (or even standard) behavior. We can be better if we choose to be...or we can be like every other place. We can choose to have good, productive members that don't fit into the average forum AND people who like to sling shit back and forth..as long as they follow the rules. I believe there are a number of hookah forums who are taking hostile, typical internet assholes. This doesn't have to be the place for it.
