How Many Coals Do You Use? (coconaras)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I use Coconaras and I was just curious how many coals you guys use with the Coconaras. I smoked with my hookah for the first time yesterday (yes I'm a newbie) and I started off with three coals, then tried two, then just one. Three was too harsh, two was just about right, and one limited the amount of smoke produced. So I guess my magic number is two coals. Just curious what you guys do.

It really depends on what bowl you were using.  Most non-phunnel bowls two will be enough.  Maybe even 1 1/2.  They are kinda a bitch to break since they are so dense.

I use two 2 with my mini phunnel usually, also for me it depends on what tobacco im smoking
E.g Al-Fakher is less tolerant with heat so i put less coals then i would with Nakhla. Edited by namenone1

1 1/2 on most bowls.
I got away with just 1 cut in half for most of a bowl on my QT today!
Was big time excited! Hope it goes that well again tomorrow. Was using a new windcover I made.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I just wanted to clarify...

If a Coco Nara coal regularly burns for about 50 minutes, would cutting it in half mean that the half-sized piece would only burn for 25 minutes? Or since there is less coal and less heat will it last longer? Thanks guys, and again, sorry for the natural-coal-amateur question.

It'll last slightly less, but not noticable.

Cutting them in half they LOOK way more small then when together, but still burn just fine.

However if you LEAVE them on the bowl, they WILL go out much quicker then a whole coco..coco's always need to be puffed on I notice.

Also, make sure they are GLOWING both sides before using them, and especially before cutting them in half.

I notice coco's go black even as they are lit both sides, so I flip them twice while lighting, them blow on them when transferring to the hookah..then they stay lit orange.

Cool, thanks for your help! Although I must admit, the idea of cutting a lit coal is mildly terrifying to me...I can see myself inadvertently sending one flying into some random corner in my room and burning through the floor or something. Will give it a try though, thanks again.

I cut before I light (more like bash actually lol). i would be homeless if I cut lit coals!

See, this is what I'm afraid of. And I live in a dorm, so not only would I make myself homeless, but I would make several hundred other people homeless as well. I may have to stick with what McLovin600 and FamiliarJoe are suggesting for this reason.

Lit coals split just fine..they don't shower shit everywhere like when they are Un lit.

But whatever works for you biggrin.gif Though, myself, and all my friends at first, were all VERY backed away when I was splitting them post lit...they just snip apart.

Well, maybe I'll give it a shot outside first so I can overcome my fear of flying ignited coal chunks without worrying about causing any damage to the building. If they really do just snip apart, I guess there's no reason to be afraid.
