Please Won't Someone Think Of The Children!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just joined the forum, also bought my first Hookah.

So anyway I live in Washington DC where there are lots of hookah bars and hookah smoking is very trendy. So I was surprised when I read some threads about the police showing up when you guys were smoking hookah in public.

Out of curiosity I did a google search and found this story:

Carmel shuts hookah lounge
http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...EWS01/908160353

It's about a lounge in some small town, when the local parents found out about the Hookah lounge they flipped out. The comments to the story are freaking hilarious. Especially the overly concerned mother who gets hugely offended by....wait for it... purple windows! The HORROR! shok.gif

I can only laugh.. I grew up in a small town with similar attitudes - however my hometown has grown quite a bit in the intervening years and attitudes have changed quite a bit. And yes, there is a Hookah lounge in my hometown, but I don't know if it has purple windows.

I had to comment on that one.

Glad someone did...

Can't say I'm in the least bit surprised by their reaction though, people just don't want to bother learning the facts. I liked how one person made an off-handed comment about prostitution in the comments section, and then everyone started decrying the business for promoting prostitution. People are unbelievably suggestible.

Again, glad you took the time to say something, I wasn't even sure where to begin with this one...

edit: Oh, and 500 different types of beer? Holy shit, I'm jealous. Edited by dakur001

I thought your comment was to the point and well thought out. Suburban parents fear the unknown. I think the owner of the shop probably messed up a bit by marketing to teenagers/young adults, with the predictable result of flipping out all the overly protective parents.

Very different from the kind of crowd in a hookah bar here in DC - it's all young professional people here, 20s-40s with college degrees and 9-5 jobs.

they deserved to be shutdown anyways-they used herbal shisha....fail fail fail.

naw im just kidding...the "concerned" parents keep removing everything thats great about this country...im glad that i live here and not some other places but still, its getting a little out of hand.

New York kind of sucks ass. No handguns, no hookah shops, no hookah bars. Luckily I live in Orange County and not lame westchester/putnam.

OC kind of sucks too you have to drive 20 min to get somewhere! Then again Thats my Long Island in me bitching....I am in OC like maybe once or twice a month...

All of NY sucks.. You forgot to add high taxes on your list too.. I know I wont be living here once I get my life started as far as living by my self, career and all that jazz...

P.S.

I've thought about opening up something hookah related in Orange County between Middletown-Monroe. Only because there isn't anything good! Edited by newjacksm

Its all fine when they disagree with something that other people are doing, but if somebody came in and tried to regulate the color of stained glass in their churches, or the colors they painted their houses, they'd be shitting their own pants screaming about violating their rights.

There's a serious Facist chord running through parts of this country. They should remember "Live and let live."

i don't understand why parents are blaming advertising/clubs/whatever for "influencing" their children...shouldn't it be the parents responsibility to instill morals, ethics and responsibilty into their kids?

honestly, if your kid gets into trouble, does drugs, smokes, or drinks...the fault is squarely on you as a parent. don't blame your children's friends, teachers, strip clubs or gas stations. blame yourself for not teaching them right and wrong.

it seems like some parents don't want to be hassled with the actual job of parenting, so they would rather eliminate any and everything that they deem "bad".
