smoothvirus Posted August 25, 2009 Share Posted August 25, 2009 Hi guys, just bought myself a Hookah, ordered a Khalil Mamoon Ice 38" and received it yesterday. I had actually wanted the 34" Ice but couldn't find one so I went ahead and got the 38".So I gave it a trial run last night, I saw a video on YouTube where they used an ice & salt mixture in an ice hookah so I did the same thing. I tried it and it worked very, very well.A buddy of mine is a hookah freak, he came down last week and he rigged up a hookah with a plastic cup around the stem, we dropped chunks of dry ice into that and smoked the hookah, it was very smooth and the stem got really cold.We're talking about experimenting with dry ice & alcohol mixture to drop temperatures into the -109.3°F range.. note that we are talking about using this mixture in an ice chamber, NOT in the bowl which would not be safe.Now all my friends are emailing me, wanting to come over and try the hookah. Ah, the hookah as a social centerpiece, exactly what I wanted. I think I'll hold off from the crazy science experiments until my hookah crazy buddy drops in, however. fineout Posted August 25, 2009 Share Posted August 25, 2009 i wouldnt do the dry ice thing, first off when you make smoke too cold it actually can lose flavor and clouds, bringing it to -100 would probably end up messing it all up..and also could end up cracking your stem. When I was buying my KM ice, I wanted the 39" and could only find the 34"About the dry ice...a long time ago before I came to the forums, I decided to set my hookah (well my buddies hookah that we were smoking) on a block of dry ice. AFter about 10 min, we couldn't get any air to come through the hose anymore. Turned out the dry ice had frozen the ice in the vase solid.I would be careful putting salt in the ice chamber. The main reasons cars on the road rust is because of the salt they put on the roads to melt the ice. Ice+salt=rust. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dry Ice would never be in/around my hookah, completely unnecessary, But do what you want if you think it will work. Just as long as you don't put it in the vase. smoothvirus Posted August 26, 2009 Author Share Posted August 26, 2009 Hey guys, thanks for the kind responses.So anyway my buddy Philly Phil and I carried out our crazy experiment with dry ice and alcohol last night. I worked quite well, there was no damage to the hookah at all. The smoke was actually cold, which was astonishing. It was pretty interesting, the alcohol turns into a gel after being cooled down by the dry ice. Basically we wanted to see if it would work. It is, however, kind of expensive, dry ice costs about $1 a pound and the smallest size you can get it in is 5 pounds.Yeah, that place is a mess but it's not my house. It's a friends apartment, he just got back from a trip to Ukraine and he had just unpacked a whole bunch of stuff. The whole "F them" thing was just a joke guys, but I can see how it could be taken the wrong way so I apologize for the misunderstanding.Anyway there were some folks that felt that the experiment was dangerous but if you watch the video we take many, many precautions. There actually was a lot of research behind our experiment but you guys weren't privy to that.mushrat did point out that if you do this a lot with your hookah, the metal will get stressed and I do agree with that. delSol_si Posted August 27, 2009 Share Posted August 27, 2009 I haven't gotten to watch the video yet because it is peak computer hours on the university and it is effing slow, but if you want to get your hookah extra cold without effing with the dry ice, just go to walmart, get one of the big cans of air you use to blow out the dust and shit from your computer. Don't shake it, just turn it upside down, wait a few seconds to let everything settle, and pull the trigger. It should shoot freezing shit all over you hookah. But, as said before, it may screw your hookah up if you do it to much. I know people have used this same method to remove dents out of their car, so it will make the metal contract and so forth.
