Sonthert
It should be about the width of a quarter...the depression in the foil from the top of the bowl to the pack of tobacco. If you have too much in there, take some out. If you have too little, put some in. Reuse the same foil each time (unless you mangle it)

I assume you, being a strong guy, would result in you pressing down harder than most people.

What is this foil test that I am not aware of?If you watch the tangiers packing video that hookahjohn made, there is a point where Eric shows a foil test where he presses down on the foil to see how far below the foil the tobacco sits which should be the width of the quarter
Sonthert
I think I understand the question. There is a point where the tobacco won't compress anymore. It starts to squish like wet mud. This will vary on how wet the flavor is, the wetter the flavor, the less it can be compressed. This does offer a magnificent absolute measuring stick, however, since if there is more juice in the tobacco, it should be of slightly lesser amount. The foil test accounts for this fairly well.Secret information: Most of the longest lasting flavors have less juice in them. You can pack slightly more in a bowl, adding to their longevity.
