Well, I figure there are probably a lot of new people who skip reading the rules because it contains more than 10 sentences tongue.gif . Actually, there are probably people out there who have not memorized the entire rule page and could use a quick reference guide. Here is a summary of the rules I came up with for quick reference:

Posting rules:
1. Be civil.
2. No illegal substances, when discussing the misconception, use NHT.
3. Review section is for reviews only.
4. Read subforum rules and follow. (ie. in member locations, only post your location, not questions or comments)
5. Do not reference other hookah related forums.
6. No NHT or related in names.
7. Do not mention banned vendors.
8. No trolling

Other rules:
1. No multiple accounts
2. Vendors must follow vendor rules
3. Feel free to PM any questions to moderators
4. Check e-mail for notifications.
5. All new members make at least one post within 24 hours

List of banned vendors:

NHT specifics:
http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=8169
Detailed rule page:
http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=30715

Remember, this is just a summary of the rules for quick reference, NOT the official rule page so this is not grounds for arguing. The only reason I typed this out is for those people who need a quick reference. Please see the actual rule list for a detailed explanation of each rule.

I vote keep it.

You should also keep a link to the rules in your message. Many people just don't think to read the rules, the way I see it this is just another way to try to get them to find/understand the guidelines.

You already made a note of it that it isn't official and can't be used as grounds for arguing. So they may be inclined to click the link to the rules if they want to stick around.

It should be deleted. There is a subforum just for rules, we shouldnt have to see a thread about the rules in the general section. If someone breaks the rules, thats their problem, they should have read them.

I like it Del...good job, that is a great idea...just hope people hop around to read it like they dont the ones in existence.

what we need is something when you first sign up that forces you to read them

pop up quiz to be able to post anybody?

I think it's a bit redundant. If a person can't read the rules, they deserve their 2 week ban....or perma-ban...depending on the rule(s) broken. *shrugs*...

People will ignore the rules even if the rules stare them square in the face. if it's an "oops" then they'll learn from the ban. However, those who ignore the rules, ignore them everywhere, not just on here. I deal with it every day...people not being able to "read the rules" and they *know* the rules and still work on pushing the boundaries. With those people, it wouldn't matter if it rained brick and mortar, as they are going to break the rules if they wanted to in the first place.

Putting the rules up on the board just makes it redundant, or all the more reason for someone to troll/break the rules....it's like antagonizing them...egging them on. Just my thoughts on it. I know I'm outnumbered by those who feel we should keep the rules posted, but honestly, it seems the point is moot.

The rules are posted, we don't need a cliff notes version, its redundant. IF someone is ignorant enough to not read whats there its is THEIR fault and no one else. We can't force people to read and comply with the forum rules, that's why we have mods and bans...

I completely understand where you are coming from...but that isn't really the point of this. My intention of this was to help out those people who have already read the rules, but need a quick refresher or a quick reference every now and then so they don't accidentally break a rule.

If the people who are breaking the rules have been here, they'd know where to find the rules. I ran into the rules about 10x before figuring out how to maneuver the forum. Some people space cadet. It won't prevent 2 week bans, at all. If someone's going to post something, they aren't going to say...with every post...hold up, let me check the rules. People know the rules. They will either abide by them, or they won't. There are always mistakes, but again...it's a space cadet sort of instance. Mentioning a specific movie/song/whatnot in chat...not realizing the implications...mentioning a site that has stuff non-compliant to HF on there...the list is pretty endless to the goofups possible that these rules, in all their glory, cannot stop someone from stepping into their own hole in the ground for a 2 week ban. Those who have been here, know where the rules are. This thread would actually be harder to find than the rules themselves, for newbies. However...for people who have been here for a while, they should be able to, logically speaking (unless you are insulting intelligence, or maybe said persons just aren't intelligent?...idk), they'd be able to locate the rules just as easily. *shrugs*

sorry for the run-on paragraph

I think this is a great idea! but i also think we should have an even more condensed version for those who do not have time to read your rather long summary of the rules. how about pinning something like this along with it?

Rules

1. If you choose to not read and adhere to the rules for whatever reason... GTFO.
