OneGreenMonstah
Hey had a quick question regarding purge valves... there is two different styles of purge valves i have come across... i have a KM trimetal hookah with this style purge: and have a mini mya with this style:ive noticed that my KM with the straight purge valve purges excellent and the purge thats more dome shaped only purges half the vase. ...i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if its the purge valve or the actual hookah...if it is the actual hookah and not the fact that it has the dome shaped purge valve would the KM double pear purge just as well as the KM trimetal with the straight purge valve?thanks a bunch
hookah hippie
So I think your question is does the valve that is dome shaped clear as wellI would say the straight valve works better and is easier to purge the entire basebut I am able to purge KMs with dome shaped purges as well it just takes more effort
Genie
Well, I'm still a bit of a noob but the main difference between a nice big Egyptian (besides height and quality, of course) is the way the chambers are designed. The smaller, cheaper hookahs have a common chamber. But in the nicer hookahs, the purge, hose, and stem are separated. Just look at the bottom of each stem and you'll see what I mean. I am too much the noob to know why this makes such a big difference, but it does. Not to mention that if you blow too hard to purge a smaller hookah you'll end up with water in your bowl but you can blow fairly hard on a tall hookah and not risk getting water in your bowl, so you can literally blow more smoke out. the_cool
Its to do with the hookah, myas have poor purges, wheras K~M's have better. It is to do with the design of the purge i believe. If you check the two holes which connect to the hose and the purge alongside the down pipe, you should see that the Km has two holes facing downwards into the vase wheras the mya has two holes kinda facing each other at an angle. My theory is that its this design which causes the poor purge. (the terms for the diff design is common chamber and closed chamber i think?)If you attach a straw to the hole of the purge valve next to the downstem and have the other end of it attached to the downstem but not submerged in the water (have the end of the straw maybe an inch above the water level), it should make for a better purge....or so i hear

The KM purges better, but the Mya purges easily for me. And my KM purge whistles! A tad annoying. My Mya makes no noise when I purge it. I recently switched from the ball bearing in the Mya purge to a plastic bb and now it purges better than ever. I love it. Put the ball bearing in the KM, still whistles but not quite as much as it did with the clay ball that was in it. May need to try the bb in it too. There are various terms and various chambers. But in this case, I think we're talking common chamber vs. traditional chamber.
K1024
open v closed chamber: and genie is correct, this is the reason your mya does not purge as well as your km.
Stuie
I concur that's it based on the Open or Closed Chamber Hookah. But also, the straight valves on KMs purge as well as the pyramid looking ones on KMs in my opinion.
