LestOH!
hihave any of you experienced cleaning out your stem and finding some kind of blueish greenish residue built up inside?i'm guessing it's from the chemicals found in the shisha..but i might be wrongALSOi have one of those default washable hoses..now every time i suck in just air, it tastes nasty as SH*Tthat might also have to do with the chemicals in the shishawhat's the best way to clean out your hose and rid it from all the previous flavored smoke etc.?all help appreciated
mushrat
howdy.. The green crap is normal. Its the gunk from the shisha dripping down the stem mixed with a few other things. Not a lot of chemicals really in shisha...anyway.... I find the ebst way to clean my hose is to run hot water through it. Then pouring concentrated lemon juice into it...running it back and forth the length a few times...then flushing it with water again. If its REALLY nasty..repeat. Go outside and whip it around to force excess water out and the hang it to dry atleast overnight. You don't want to smoke it still wet as it will collect crap even faster. Should eb fresh and clean for the next smoking...
LestOH!
thanksin cleaning my hose, i've been taking the same procedures as you minus HOT water (normally regular temp. water) and taking it outside for a spin or two, and then leaving it out in the sun for a little bit to dry out completely.i'll take a shot at the lemon juice step and see how it goesthanks mushrat :]
JByer323
White vinegar does an amazing job of cleaning your hookah on a whole. When I strip my MYA into nothingness, all the parts take a bath in it, and come out clean as can be.
Seandoo
Good idea with the white vinegar! I've tried simple green, I've tried baking soda and water, stuff like that but never did vinegar occur to me. Just gotta take off the air valves with balls right? haha with balls..Good idea on the hoses as well, I might give that a go in the near future before it gets bad. I mean the hoses are alright for the most part, but a cleaning wouldn't hurt.Yeah I've noticed green crap in the air valves after smoking - if I don't clean it every 1-2 sessions, the hoses won't stay in the rubber plug it's so slimy! It smells sweet/sour and yeah it's kind of gross..-SeanHello from France!

Aggie Shisha
why does the thought of smoking vinegar right now appeal to me? It's WAY too early and I am not caffeinated enough.

Cornellius
Well its normal, slick green stuff is liquidified vapours from shisha and rust. I do not clean my hoose, I find the left over stuff in it gives smoking more taste.
Sonthert
Yes, the stuff is residue of non-water soluble components that reflux out in the process. Additionally, the glycerine/molasse might trigger a slight chemical reaction.

I use lemon juice for the hose.
Terence
I have now replaced my hose with PVC due to the inside of my leather hose rusting..... Water Kills Leather hose, The only why I know how to clean them is steam or air. If you have access to a expresso make you can use the milk frother to send a jet of Steam through the hose or and air conpresser has a good effect too... I now don't worry with PVC I just run hot water through and its done.
mushrat
Terence: thats only true of NON_WASHABLE leather hoses. Mya WASHABLE hoses don't use a cheap rustable (rustable??) coil so they can be washed over and over without falling appart. Only 5-7 bucks at their site.... Sonthert
Actually, they probably do, they just coat the whole inside with plastic. They've had washable hoses for 5-6 years.
mushrat
well, ok...if they use a cheap metal coil, its coated so it may as well not be a cheap metal coil..still wont rust when you wash it....
THE NAMELESS
yeah the same thing happened to me with my hoses after a few sessions. so i cut them open and it was horrible. the metal coil inside was all rusted and it was lined with arabic sprite lables. lost
I've had bad luck running water through both "washable" and "unwashable" hoses.I used to just let the hose sit for a while (perhaps a few days) and then blow through it (manually). I've got a fair stock of hoses so it's not much of an issue to take one out of the rotation. I ended up buying an aircompressor since I live with 2 others and all 3 of us smoke on a regular basis.Note: As far as PVC tubing goes, I've heard that running smoke through it can be somewhat hazardous. Surgical tubing works just as well, and should be safe to inhale through. If you PM me, I'll find the distributor that I was looking at.
Sonthert
OK, PVC may or may not be bad for you. Is what they make hookah hoses with better? I have cut open many a hookah hoses to find wet parts (the ones that come in contact with the smoke) made of various plastics. I am pretty sure that PVC is safe, unless heated. mushrat
Did some one say outgassing? Sonthert
Oh, God is that how Yash started using vinyl hoses?Do they really use plastic pipes for water supply? I thought they used plastic piping only for lawn sprinklers and sewer pipes. Your point is well taken, Mushy, I think that the chemicals from a hose may be the ant on the truck...it doesn't matter that much.
