cgore
Well recentely my friend decided that he was going to get a new car and had about 7 grand saved up for a new car. This dream eventually got ruined just with all the economy stuff and him being fresh out of highschool as well meant financing a car for him would be hard. He decided to just put the money he had saved up and put it into his 96 Ford Explorer 2 door. His plans:1. 6" Lift Kit2. New wheels all together3. Full Tint - 5% all around and 35% on the windshield4. Smoked tail lights - Done5. New Stereo System6. Intake / Exhaust / Headers8/30/09 We decided tonight just to darken his back lights, pics below:Before / AfterFinished tail lights with tape still on one of themInstalled pics will be up tomorrow because they have to dry overnightMore to come.. delSol_si
No offense, but that is a horrible decision as far as I am concerned. If he wants to spend 7 grand on a car, sell the one he has and buy a nice, newer, used car. Or hell, now a days you can buy a brand new one for around 13k if I remember correctly. I am sure a 7k down payment would be plenty. I hate seeing people throw that kind of money into that kind of stuff you mentioned. It is like throwing it down the toilet, you will never get a return in the investment. Hell, when buying a car is a bad investment, putting extra frills into it is an even worse investment. But, if that is what he wants to spend money on, then more power to him. From experience, I can say I have spend a lot of money on unnecessary shit for my cars in the past. I put about 900-1000 bucks worth of stereo equipment in my old car, complete waste of money, of that, I would probably be lucky to resell it all for 200-300 bucks, if that. Guess how much of it is left in my car now....the $270 head unit with the $50 ipod hookup, now probably only worth $80-$100 max. Guess where the rest of the stuff is....sitting in my parent's attic collecting dust. You usually lose interest in the frills after awhile. Heck, right now I don't even have floor mats in my car because I don't want to sink money into it....my antenna just broke off when I was going down the interstate about a week ago...I don't have any plans to fix it because I don't fee like sinking any money into it.I do remember being all excited about the frills when I was in high school and first year or so of college, but then it wears off and I feel stupid for having spent all that money. My word of advice is spend them money on someone worth while. But, if that is what he wants to do, then more power to him, only live once.
delSol_si
Oh, and really he doesn't need to finance to get a new car, just by preowned. Look on eBay, the local news paper, the Trader, the Dollar Stretcher, etc.. I bought my 94 honda delSol si off eBay, turned out great. 168,000 miles on it, excellent condition for $3100 (probably worth a good 3500-4000 back when I bought it) Sounds like a lot, but it is a rare honda that are hard to find and usually really expensive when you do. Back to the point, for $7k, you can find a really nice preowned car, just don't buy from a dealer.

He can be looking at stuff that's 2-10 years old and still in great condition. He doesn't have to take the off the lot value hit, and he gets a great car. He won't have to settle for something close to the cheapest car on the lot. Also, there's no way to bamf a 96 explorer. It's bitch all the way. Sorry man. Tell your buddy to get a jeep.http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/1344056602.html << comes with a higher dose of bamf stock than you could ever put into a ford explorer. He wants to turn the car into an off roading SUV at the same time though..Oh! and I think its possible, the finished result will look sick. I'll post a picture because we find an explorer that has pretty much all the same stuff that he wants done to his.
