HookahDuck
Have you let the tobacco air out at all? It may be in whats called humidity shock- which would make the tobacco loose much of its flavor.Try letting it acclimate to the air for 4 hours or so before you smoke next time. Its worth a shot- if not, you just have some bad batches of ma'assel
ataneja
I myself would reccommend trying different brands. I smoke fumari, and I love it. I haven't had good experiences with Nakhla, and I haven't tried the others you have. But try a new brand (look up on the forum for reviews of brands and flavors). good luck! dikydave
not sure what kind of coals you use, but that could be a big problem when combined with your metal bowl.
dikydave
or maybe it's not metal...yikes, clean that.

Oggie505
Aha um ye its metal, I use Swift-Light self lighting charcoal
I did some searching and all I can find is this stuff is for insence, or however u spell it, maybe it is not intended for hookahs? It might give off an oder or something that will neutralize the massal. Try getting some charcoal that is designed especially for hookah smoking

Alqoshnia
You know Ive been noticin that all my m'assel have no taste even after I let it air out past couple weeks. Ive done 4-6 hours, 10-12 hours, 1-2 days and nothing. I barely get anymore taste. The smells are still there and smell great, but once I fire it up I get a pinch of flavor, but I do still get clouds of smoke. Ive been wanting to put up reviews for my Starbuzz, but there just isnt any flavor whatsoever.
Hookah_Bob
Your taste buds might need a break..If you smoke too much, they lose their sense of taste. Try taking a few days break (if you smoke a lot, like 10bowls a day)
mushrat
Nameone: 1 1/2 coals on a metal bowl are probably burning your tobacco. The metal bowls apparently heat up too much for most people's tastes. What's the stuff look like when you are done? is it ashed or merely dried up into a black puck?also, are you a cigarette smoker? would you be able to tell if your tobacco was actually burning as opposed to cooking? I'd see if I could find some 3 kings or golden charcoals if you want to keep using quicklites. I'd definitly find a ceramic or porcaline bowl. and I'd kick my heat back to one disk instead of 1 1/2 for starters... I see you are listed in the UK. this will make it harder for him/her to find better ma'asells easily, so merely suggesting a different premium tobacco isn't going to help much. Try changing the set up. Hope some of this helps.
Sonthert
I'm not sure its humidity shock...usually when flavor's weak, smoke's weak...how do you pack a bowl? It might be you are packing too little in the bowl and the flavor flashes out too quickly.

steve07
Well I think you need to cut back on the heat a little on occasion I use my social smoke minor it has a metal bowl and I start with 1 coal and that is all I need to use for the whole bowl and doesn't burn the shisha with wind cover and metal screen I also use japanese or natural charcol which does't seem to heat up the shisha as quickly. maybe this will help
Lukasa
I think your problem might be your hookah. It looks kind of old and small. Swift-Light DOES make hookah coal, just so long as you're using coal MADE for hookahs, you should be fine. Read some threads on packing bowls, see if you're doing something wrong. My suggestion would be to get a new hookah, if it is possible for you.

mushrat
It should look like a black dried up puck. It may still be squishy on the bottom if you havent smoked it completely dead. Maad, yours sounds about right.
Maad
Thanks mushrat. At first only the top was black and the bottom look just liked dried up non-smoked shisha. I was throwing that away! Now I know just to add another coal and enjoy another hour of smoke
Guest Namenone
anyone know where i can get a shisha bigger then 70cm for aroud £20-30? thanks
[LB]
My first idea is switch tobaccos my friend. Take a step up and get some fakher, tangiers or amir (or if your loaded get some starbuzz). If you dont have alot of extra dough get some layalina, always full of flavor- but heres what most matters about what i have to say-alot of times what determines the flavor of the session is the heat of the charcoal, or the charcoals themselves. When i first started hookahing i used natural coals, then i used golden coals, then 3 kingsi just ran out of all my goldens and 3 kings so i went back to natural coals, just regular wood charcoal (not nour or lemonwood, it doesnet matter) and this i have decided, brings out the most flavor and the whitest smoke over any charcoals i have ever tried. So get yourself a jar of AA blackberry and a box of dusty black wood charcoals!
Guest Namenone
What is natural charcoal exactly? is it the charcoal from the bag you buy thats full of charcoal?
