Crys
anything with Curry and Lamb is delicious to mebut if you're sensitive to spicy foods (not just hot spicy but any type of spice) beware!

Tyler
Chicken Shahi KormaSucculent chicken pieces and cheese cubes gently simmered with nuts and raisinsMy current fav thing at the local indian place, I get it as a #4, on a 1-6 hottness scale and it's almost too hot. So beware.

natgnat
You can't go wrong with virtually anything on the menu. If possible, try to go to a lunch buffet first, they're usually pretty prominent in Indian restaurants. Go hungry. .

sleeperhit
QUOTE (thecyrax @ Sep 3 2009, 06:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Chicken Tikka Masala This!Also...Don't forget to grap some Samosa's.Vegtable ones usually tastes better but you can sometimes find some good meat ones.Anything that ends with Korma on the menu is going to be much different then what you are use to. I would suggest trying something easy yet tasty. Although it is still tasty. The Tikka Masala is the way to go.Plus it won't be spicy.Samosa's are not spicy at all.Make sure you get mint sauce with them. spudd4242
i can't remember the name exactly, but it's a vegetarian dish at my local place and it belive it's called Shahi mushroom, or something along those lines, it's a mushroom and pea mixture... rocks my freaking socks off
indian_villager
Appetize yourself with your basic Samosa. This will usually come with two sauces, green and red. The green is mint based and on the spicy side but not overwhelming but the red one is sweet. (yea you read that correctly the red one is sweet.)For an entree I'd suggest Chicken Tikkah Masala. This is chicken in a mild yogurt based sauce. This should come with Naan or Porotta. Try them both if you can. (The porotta is on the greasy side though)As an alternative try the chicken tandoori (this sometimes comes with naan, if it doesnt get a side order of it.) This is large pieces of chicken marinaded in a marinade of ginger garlic paste, yogurt, and a few other spices (not it does have a light kick but again nothing overwhelming). The way it is cooked varies. The legit way is to have it cooked in a Tandoor oven, other places just opt to do it in a broiler. It is so much better out of a tandoor. The exterior has a slight crisp while the inside is juicy and succulent. For desert If you have a real sweet tooth I'd suggest Gulab Jamun. They are these fried doughballs that are soaked in cardamom spiced sugar syrup (depending on the region of India the chefs/owner hails from you may get this with coconut shavings.)Oh and don't forget to get Mango Lassi as a drink while you are there. (Mango, Cardamom, Yogurt).Try it out!

(Mango, Cardamom, Yogurt).Try it out! What he said ^ My personal favourites are:Starters:Seekh Kebab for starters (minced lamb kebabs on skewers grilled over an open fire) Chicken Tikka (medium sized cubes of chicken breast marinated in various spices, usually garlic, ginger, perhaps some chilli and yoghurt and then cooked in a tandoor oven). As IV mentioned, the green and red sauce would usually be served with these. I would also recommend to order some naan bread to accompany the starter.Mains:I would recommend Lamb or chicken Karahi ( this is a medium hot curry but so delicious and spicy, full of flavour). Dhaal or Lentils is an excellent vegetarian alternative to a meat dish. Very tasty and mildly spicy.Again, I would recommend either rice or naan bread to compliment your main dish.Dessert:My favourite dessert is also Gulab Jamun, exactly how IV described it! There is also Rasmalai (this is like a very creamy and sweet pudding consisting of semolina balls in a rich creamy milk) It's an excellent finish to a spicy meal.Beverages:Mango Lassi FTW! I hope you can find some of these dishes at some of your local Indian restaurants. I can get all of these dishes at my local's as well as at home haha (I'm indian )Enjoy!Mr. Shisha

srawas89
Chicken Tikka Masala is my all time favorite. And most indian resturaunts will ask how spicy it is on a scale of like 1-5 or 1-6 etc. So if you want mild go with one MAYB 2 but if you can stand spicy food you can go higher. Svaals
I would definitely ask about vindaloo before you order, it is usually one of the spicier dishes.
