Hookie The Hookah
Lately I've been seeing a lot of videos n stuff of people throwing a ton of coals on their Tangiers heads, nothing new really. Thing is, this isn't how I've done it historically... Usually I plop enough coals to get good clouds but never white-out mind bending clouds. Right now I decided to do what everyone else has been doing and just put more heat on there. The result was huuuuuge clouds but this kind of tobacco taste mixing with the horchata. It wasn't terrible (actually it was pretty good) but I'm just curious if this is what everyone else experiences when they get huge-ass clouds... newjacksm
I think tobacco taste means you need to let it acclimate some more. Just let it sit out for about 4 hours.
Hookie The Hookah
Nah, it's acclimated. This was the last bowl from a 250 I've had for about 2 weeks now.... The flavor is there, there is just good amount tobaccy mixed in at higher heats
Webbles
I do taste a little itty bit of the tobacco, but thats what gives it texture & body. Its richness. You dont get an empty fake smoke like a starbuzz. The tobacco taste seems to be a bit more of an after taste, and is masked in the rich flavor (such as peach ice tea or chocomint). Hookie The Hookah
Real talk (f starbuzz). It is an after taste I'm getting here, so I think we're on the same page
Stuie
I still have never been able to get 3 cocos on a small phunnel of tangiers without coughing my ever loving lungs out. I get good clouds with one at 20 minutes plop on another and I am good for another hour.

Chiefin
Especially with tangiers, it's about the climate of the bowl as a whole, not just what's going on where the coals meet the shisha. When I use three coconaras on a small phunnel, I get nothing but amazing clouds of deliciousness out of Tangiers. I think it comes down to packing method in combination with how much heat is being used. For example, my roommate presses down Tangiers with foil (while packing) to where it's flat or maybe a little below the rim of the bowl. His bowls only need two coconara coals for the most part. I pack my bowls and pack it down with my thumbs until the shisha is at the rim. Then I loosely rest a 1/2 - 3/4 inch layer of tangiers on top of that to where the shisha is well over the top of the bowl. Then I take the foil, without pressing down on top, and pull it over the bowl. My tangiers bowls have a mild dome at the top. My bowls need three, but I feel like I get a little richer tobacco flavor from mine, much like you're experiencing. Both methods work well, but I think the volume of the shisha in the bowl and the density at which it's packed is key to the amount of heat that needs to be on there. I also get better bowls when I dont poke holes to the bottom of the bowl. I suppose the theory would be that the heat could travel thoroughly through the bowl if the holes are poked through to the bottom. However, I think this just makes pockets of hot air and disrupts the heat distribution in the bowl. I typically just puncture relatively large holes in the foil at the top and try to not disturb the shisha below.
Arcane
OG has a fairly noticeable "richness" and slight smokiness, which I'm guessing is a tobacco-y taste. I dunno...could be because I'm slightly toasting the tobacco too. But, I like it.My Lucid bowls don't have much of any tobacco-y taste, but then again..I'm not sure since the only thing that's different is the nicotine content.Maybe I'm confusing the nicotine taste with a tobacco taste. sleeperhit
I usually use 3 Coconara's. 4 Will usually have me coughing. Big clouds yes, but I like it to be tasty.Had to use 4 last night due to high winds.I know what you mean about the big clouds thing. I've seen people put a coal right in center just for that added heat for huge clouds. Then after a bit they'll press it down to keep the clouds big. I try to let them know that they're killing the taste but eh...their shisha, their hookah.

ColibriDon
I just go until I get nice clouds. Usually 3 Golden Canary coals on a small is enough to get plenty nice clouds (Like, ZOMG where'd the TV go?!). I have used 3 Coco's on a small before and got great results but it is just too much heat for some different flavors and you would just get clouds of misery. After a while, I moved down to 2 and maybe 3 if the clouds weren't quite satisfying.

Sonthert
If I over charcoal it, yes. I kind of get a burnt rubber kind of flavor.
