LIQUIDGSR
I just had the worst buzz every. I think i screwed up my olive wood micro phunnel bow. Last night my friend and I smoked my new micro phunnel bowl the conventional way and was phenomanol. I then tried to soak it in olive oil to try and get the grate out of the inside but end up breaking it and spent over and hour cutting the grate out. So today I made a phunnel for it but it didn't work. It just smoked the soaked the olive oil and game me a super bad buzz. It also burned my bowl the hell out of the inside of the bowl and made a tiney about of burn on the outside. I think I am finally coming off of the bad buzz! AKammenzind
Geeze, I don't think there was a single thing in that whole post that didn't have fail written all over it. And on top of that you triple-posted the topic... just isn't your day hahaha
kdkhookah
Reminds me of a time when a friend thought he could make his tobacco wetter or something. I don't know what he was doing. He put some oil on it and added salt too. It tasted like BBQ and by no means in a good way.
LIQUIDGSR
yeah i was completely out of it when i wrote that. seriously not my day. I thought soaking it in olive oil would make it easier to take the grate out of it that got stuck inside of it and wouldn't come out. but that didn't work. I have to find a way to get the olive oil out of it now because it made me feel really sick. I am still feeling sick.Ok so im feeling a little better now. This is what happend.Yesterday i got the bowl and it didn't come with a funnel mod. So when i went to my friends house I inserted the grate it came with to use it the convetional way. I made a charcoal holder out of the tea candle aluminum and put the charcoal holder inside of it to make it easier to take out. I loaded it up with some new fantasia I purchased. We smoked Orange sherbert, wild mango, and purple haze. All three times we got some of the juice come up because it wasn't funneled. After smoking i went home and tried to take the grate out to clean the bottom of the bowl. IT wouldn't come out. So i tried popping it out and it still wouldn't. I tried using something to pop it out and it broke a hole through it. I proceed to try and soak it in some olive oil to see if it would expand. It didn't. I then had to cut the grate out. So after all that there goes the grate.I went to home depot and bought something to try and make it into a funnel. I got a piece that fit inside and got a o ring to fit it so it would seal. Tonight I took it to my friends house again and we loaded up the purple haze fantasia into it with the funnel mod i made. Instead of pulling the flavor of the tobacco I got the flavor of the olive oil. I knew i made a BIG mistake when i soaked it at that point. We smoked it for a while and I got a huge headache and stomach ache> I then got a really bad buzz. Thats when put the first post up. I seriously was completely out of it.Anyways I know this makes me sound like a complete noob but i do usually made a mean head. Epic fail I know. I also managed to scorch the inside of the bowl. I will have to find a way to get the olive oil out of the bowl. Maybe put it in some water for a while? Thanks for listening to my epic fail. FML. russianwizard
When you soak your hookah in olive oil your supposed to wash it with water until said olive oil is gone Protip: Don't try crazy things with fragile things whilst inebriated. LIQUIDGSR
I will do that tomorrow. Hopefully sand down the inside of the bowl also to get rid of the black. Thanks.
kdkhookah
I suggest trying a good quality dish detergent. This is what I use to clean oil paint from my brushes. Oil paint it 1/2 linseed oil and 1/2 pigment. Or at least soak it in water with lots of said detergent. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe someone else can suggest something better. Cause maybe someone else here on the forum has done something similar and just isn't confessing up to it.
LIQUIDGSR
well thing is anything i soak it in will be absorbed by the wood. I am afraid to soak it in anything else now other than water. I am even more afraid to smoke it again at all. I wish i had just bought a smaller mnh glass funnel bowl when I ordered mine instead of going for the large one. Don't get me wrong this bowl smokes like a champ and only needs one 33mm coal with like 5-10g of tobacco. I guess I am just upset at myself for screwing such a nice bowl up. Zinite
Soak it in some sort of soap. Soaking in water will not do anything. Even though some of the soap will be absorbed by the wood, it will be worth it.First soak it in dish soap, then run it under hot water for 5 minutes or so. Then, soak it in hot water and repeat. That should get rid of the oil, and then the soap. Soaking it in baking soda after that might be good.

Scalliwag
dang, that sucks Liq. I soak mine in olive oil but I wipe it off really good before I load it. I'm really wondering what you got when you went to Home Depot along with the o-ring? Like I told you in the email I really need to post an update on how I smoke with the bowl now. I'll go ahead and ost it here and make a vid later.I nixed the phunnel mod and use the conventional method with an additional strainer for the coal.I loosely fill the shisha to the top and put the coal strainer on the top and push it down until the rim of the strainer and bowl are even. I break up a 33mm 3 King after getting it going pretty hot and put the chunks in the strainer. It's sorta similar to packing Tangiers, or at least closer than the way I was doing it. Also just like with Tangs I noticed if I let the coals sit in the strainer a couple or few minutes it smokes a lot better. I can't remember who originally figured that out with Tangs but I found it worked. I manage the ashing by just dumping the bowl into the ash tray. The strainer fits could enough not to pop out so you just put fresh coal chunks back in and keep smoking.
LIQUIDGSR
Yeah I am feeling much better today. I had a very bad headache this morning when I woke up to eat at around 4:30. I was just completely messed up last night. I am happy the feeling went away and that my bowl isn't messed up. Scali was nice enough and said he would send me another grate and the phunnel pieces to try out. I think I am going to take a break from smoking and let my lungs recover at least until the end of the week.
Scalliwag
from what I gathered thru the IM's it appears he was using too much heat and scorching the bowl and the shisha.
LIQUIDGSR
yeah i think because i trying to setup a phunnel mod that it wouldn't heat up the tobacco enough. The first time i broke up the pieces of coal and put it in there, but the smoke was low and I wasn't getting the flavor we did last night. I tried putting a whole 33mm piece in there and that ended up scortching the tobacco and the bowl itself.
