Scrappydoo
I have been reading about people raving about milk so I decided to try it. I loaded my Large Syrian the usual way, used the same coals, added about 1/4 cup of milk. WOW! The flavor of the shisha is smoother and the smoke is amazingly better. Lighter, fluffier, more volume. "BULLS**T" say a few of the posters on the chat that night! LOL! OK, the next night I conduct an experiment. I have five of my friends over for our weekly card game, I tell them all to bring their pipes. We all smoke a bowl the regular way, and I am paying attention to everyone's smoke volume and quality, mostly. Then I tell them what I'm doing and four of them agree to add milk for the second bowls. All are using exactly the same tobaccos (one mint, strawberry, double apple, orange and my cherry). All but one agreed that both the taste and smoke was better. The only girl who didn't like it mostly objected to wasting milk in a shisha jar instead of drinking it and didn't think it was worth wasting milk over. I cleaned my pipe immediately (as I always do) and there is no smell of milk or anything bad. I also always make sure to keep the liquid level low, so bubbling was not a problem. I saw one post that said that milk lipids attach or? Now I don't know about all that but I do know that I and my friends have now tried it 7 times altogether and the difference is distinguishable! What do you think? Try it yourself and report back.
Scrappydoo
OH, and the girl who didn't notice the difference was one of those people who smoke strawberry and use the tiniest coals and barely inhales. You know the type! The one who was most impressed the most was smoking orange, she said itwas A LOT less sharp and she was blowing smoke like a freaking steam engine! Arcane
i dunno...i still think its all in your head. i don't see how something solid can attach to a gas.....if it did, i figure it would fall back into the liquid in the base. after all, you don't see milk lipids floating around in your base do you? Namenone
Unless it has something to do with the temperature of the milk being colder than that of tap water, i have no idea how this would work =[
NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
i think one day we will need someone to make a vid using the same coals, same shisha, same bowl, same hookah, same hose, same everything..just do it once with water and then once with milk mixed..and see if theres a difference in clouds..taste obviously we wont be able to tell other then the poster telling us..but then again taste is different for everyone..whos to say what she feels taste good is what we would say yes that taste good..but i dont believe taste is the issue here..i do believe 99% of people who use milk are in it for the huge clouds that they claim they can get..now Scrappydoo may be that 1% who is also in it for the taste..so until someone does this experiment on vid for us to see the difference in clouds all most of you can do is agree to disagree..or to go and try it yourself..and if it works then try to find a scientific reason why it works.. Canon
you need to do a better experiment before ill believe you. have 2 hookahs layed out with the vases covered in some way, have one with milk and one without. ask them which one is better.Penn and teller Bullshit! did a episode over organic food. they took 1 whole banana, cut it in half and told people one half was organic and the other half was not... you can guess how many people loved the organic banana but the non organic banana tasted fake.same thing applies here. Scalliwag
I have not had good results with anything other than coconut milk which has worked great.
Scrappydoo
Well, this was certainly not a controlled scientific study, the group was too small. BUT I did not tell the ladies what the milk would do. I just said, see if you notice a difference and promised to have my maid clean their pipes well after. They did not know what to expect, it was them who all said "smoother" or "makes my shisha more flavorful." It was pretty blind as to expectations. OK, so go and have someone do your fully blind. You could wrap a towel around the bottom of each. See if you notice. You obviously don't believe my opinion so I challenge you to prove or disprove me with your own. Scalliwag
regular milk seems to foam up more and the problem with that at least in my QT is the foam would get into the hose

Capt. Morgan
Think I'll just stick to water, maybe add ice if its really hot out or smoking a mint flavor.
delSol_si
I think I may have to try this once I find a place to clean my hookah. With all these new recent milk threads, it is eating at me to try it. I would think controlling this experiment would be extremely difficult though. If either bowl is packed slightly different or if the coals are shifted slightly different (among many other factors), then they will smoke differently. For example:I went over to my buddies place out in the country to smoke on his porch last night. I decided to bust out my KM with my small tangy phunnel. Loaded up layalina raspberry first, smoked it for awhile, taste good, clouds were good, nothing too terribly amazing, then I decided I wanted a flavor clusterfuck, so I reloaded the bowl with layalina blueberry, kiwi, and black grape. The flavor was amazing...we were getting nice big, full clouds. Then all the sudden the smoke died off a little, my buddy looked at me and said "this flavor is done" and it started to get a little harsh. I shifted my coals around, blew the ash off, re-situated my foil windcover, blew out the old smoke, and told him to try again. He goes "wow, that flavor is fucking awesome again!" and the clouds were back. Long story short, I didn't pack the raspberry very good, but I packed the clusterfuck really well. if the heat management or packing is just a little off, it throws everything off.The only two things I am really worried about with this is any milk at all, even residue, forming or getting caught in my hookah. I am not worried about the hose and mine are homemade and washable, and even if it happens to totally fuck it up, I can make another for 6 bucks. The hookah on the other hand, is a bit harder to replace.
Bulldog_916
What I would do is pack 2 Egyptian heads the exact same way, then have SOMEONE ELSE set up your hookah. Someone blind to the results. Then have them cover your base with a towel. Put 2 coals of equal heat on each of your heads. Smoke and see which one is smoother tasting and which one has better clouds. Then after the bowl is spent, unwrap them and see which is which. srawas89
I say if you really want to test it get 2 bases and cover each if you so wish. Then to compare simply take the stem off of one base and put it in the other and compare the results...this way nothing changes or has the chance of changing except for what is being used as the liquid in the base. kdkhookah
I've tried it, but saw no difference. I tried the whole vodka in the base thing, and I could tell a difference. Vodka has a much stronger flavor. Didn't like it though. I also have tried to whole, literally, fruit in the base thing, and some people said they could taste a difference, but I couldn't. I just stick with water now. It's fun to change it up though. But if I want a creamy taste, I just mix in some vanilla tobacco. Though I am really interested in the idea of conducting an actual experiment, as others have stated previously.

srawas89
yea that could work as well del_sol would probably make things easier than transporting a stem lol.

Sonthert
No, no, no. Milk is great for hookahs. The only problem is foaming into the hoses, cleaning and sour milk problems. The lactic acid reduces the amount of nicotine.

I don't smoke for buzz so I don't care if there is nicotine or not. You should clean your pipe thoroughly after each use anyway, it's nasty if you don't. scratchy
If you guys can wait an hour or 2, I'll try and make a vid comparing the 2 setups. I've never tried it though, but I've got a DIY hose and a Hookah that's already in shabby shape. Now where did I put that damn video camera?
