Spats
Well, here on Long Island, NY, USA we are in the middle of some fairly decent high humidity (around 90%), high winds (35 mph gusts), heavy sporadic rain and cool (65 F). Needless to say, smoking today has been a TOTAL bust I've loaded 2 different bowls with 2 different brands and used my typical coals/techniques (that always work) for a total bust...Sporadic flavor at times but thin clouds! Adding heat only made for harsh smoke. At this point, it's time to clean up and wait for better weather! I can't believe the amount of coals I've used today for little happiness!Just can't beat mother nature it seems

Spats
First bowl was Layalina Grape and second try was Sinbad Merlot. The Sinbad's alwaystreated me right before.I'm on the South Shore in Mastic Beach.I always smoke in my Orchid room where the humidity hangs 60-70%. I think the storm'shigh humidity and low pressure just threw things off. I'll know for sure tomorrow.Winter's 40-50% humidity should be great! Sonthert
Thats strange. Usually that combination would make the smoke thick and flavorless. Must have been hot and humid prior to this spell? That would mean the absolute humidity went down, causing those thin, harsh clouds. Just guessing.

I hate humidity.

Just guessing.Yes it was hot and humid the previous couple of days but it was cool and very humid during the heavy rains. There was quite a drop in air pressure, not sure if that would factor in also.Yesterday the flavor and clouds were back to normal with the normal amount of coals used. The humidity in the smoking room was53% and low 70%'s outside and the pressure was rising.
