jellywerker
Last night I was smoking a small phunnel of nak and af mint mixed (you get the cool nak and the minty af flavors, it's good) however I was really displeased with the smoke quantity and wanted more of a buzz, so I decided to repack with 100% nak. I've been packing nak as close as I can to Mattarios' tutorial prior to last night, but I've never had great success. So last night, I decided to stuff in as much tobacco as I could. I filled it up and squished it down as hard as I could, and then repeated that a few times. I foiled and compressed again, and then refoiled and poked toothpick holes all the way down. The tabacco, even in its highly compressed state was still slightly mounding over the top of the bowl.I popped on 3 ch ql's and started puffing. I was amazed. The mint flavor had never been so strong, my throat and lungs felt like they were getting hit with an arctic blast and the clouds, holy shit the clouds. I'd never truly understood the meaning off the term! Milky thick smoke and tons of volume. It was a really fun night! On the bad side, it did use a ton of tobacco and the bowl did start to smell/taste cashed after about twenty minutes, removing the foil showed I'd just overcooked the top layer but wasn't burning the bottom tobacco.Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience and get some thoughts. mattarios2
You are getting closer. If you pay attention to the entire thread and not just the tutorial, I state that for Original nakhla (non mizo) you need to pack more in there. You are probably packing just like i did in the tutorial and that is mizo, which requires a less dense pack. For og you want to just dump a bunch in the bowl until it is slightly over the rim. Then you want to lightly press down on it so it is level with the top of the bowl.A burned/cashed taste 20 minutes in is definitely the result of over packing the bowl.I am seriously gonna make a tutorial for OG nakhla today, seems like many people are having issues with how much to put in the bowl.I'll take care of that later today at some point. AKammenzind
I've done this, and yeah the bottom half of the tobacco never seems to get smoked at all, even after a couple hours on a med. phunnel. Shit's crazy. I do sometimes take this sad, mangled egyptian bowl I have (one of the larger 25-30 gram ones that I took a dremel to and enlarged the central hole big enough to accomodate a sharpie) and pack tightly around the edges of the bowl, then fluff some nakhla in the middle. Works well, but is a bit more fussy on heat than just a normal pack of nakhla so I mainly just smoke it if it's only me and one or two other people. mattarios2
Every OG bowl I pack the entire bowl gets roasted. It sounds like if you have good stuff at the bottom after quite some time AK, you may be packing it a bit too tight.Or maybe poke holes all the way to the bottom of the bowl if you don't already. newjacksm
every bowl of anything doesnt seem to get to the bottom...
mattarios2
well that either means the bowl is too big and you aren't finishing it, or it's packed too tight, one of the two.For the first issue, you would know because the flavor would still be good and you would stop smoking. The second issue, you would add more coal and it would taste like shit no matter how much coal, but when you dump the coals and dump the tobacco, there is good stuff at the bottom of the bowl.I always go through my entire bowls in my mini of mizo and og.usually 80-90 min for the mizo and 70-80 min for the og. Which is a perfect amount of time for me and i only end up using 20-25g per bowl.
the_cool
I used mattarious's tutorial for my nak smoking sessions, worsk fantastically. For OG nak, I pack it tightly but not to the top, but to the inner phunnel rim. Works well for me. Poke the holes all the way down and 3 cocos on a small phunnel
jellywerker
Tonight I am going to try the same tobacco density, but with less tobacco, i.e. not over the rim this time but like the_cool said, just up to the inner lip.
