Tangiers In Humidor

Recommended Posts

Currently I've had about 2 or 3 days of total acclimating time, but in separate sessions. I'm trying about a 19-5 cycle with the acclimating and still no luck. I am trying tangiers horchata and while my tobacco smells just like.. tobacco, my stirring fork that gets coated with the juices and is left out the entire time smells like horchata should smell, that is about a day after stirring my tobacco. So that gives my hope that my tangiers can be acclimated

But the idea of a humidor came to me recently. I don't smoke cigars or own a humidor so i'm not too sure, but from what i've read the humidor maintains the humidity in the box the same way a humidifier maintains the humidity in a room. So has anybody had any luck acclimating their tangiers more efficiently using a humidor?

well, if you go that route....then you're acclimating to the humidity set in the humidor. once you remove it, the tobacco will go into humidity shock.

also, the humidor may impart some of the wood flavor into the tobacco...which, i dunno if you would consider that a good or bad thing...

Yea that makes sense. It may do what a humidifier does to a room but as sariel pointed out... you dont smoke in a humidor. The humidity shock crossed my mind for a second before i posted this but now this clarifies, oh well i guess i'll just keep trying my acclimating, thanks for the clarification!

Wouldn't it take the tobacco time to react to the new humidity? So in theory you may be able to smoke it before it goes into shock?

I I feel like I read that somewhere...

i dunno...when i opened up my Tangiers in Korea, it started out fine...once i stirred the tobacco, the smell changes from good to bbq/burnt within seconds...

I too have thought about this. The humidity inside the humidor would be higher than the surroundings (at least for me anyways), so I don't think it would work becuase once you take it out to smoke, it wouldn't be acclimated to the smoking environment.

I'd be interested in hearing Sonthert's opinion on this topic as well.
