delSol_si Posted September 14, 2009 Share Posted September 14, 2009 Today is a very sad day for me. Last night, I took my hookah down to the smoking lounge in the Towers Dormitory. I was walking out of my room down the hall and didn't have my Tangiers phunnel on my hookah very securely. I was carrying it and all the sudden something hits me on the head and in horror, I see my phunnel falling towards the ground. I had no time or free hand to catch it, so I try the my best to slow its fall with my foot. It hits the wall and then the floor and rolls around. I pick it up and feel it all over (mind you it was all loaded up with foil and holes poked) and it felt just fine, I was relieved. I went and had a half-ass hookah session and couldn't quite figure out why it wasn't working too well. I didn't think anything of it and put my hookah up for the night.Tonight, I took the foil off the bowl to clean it for my session tonight and to my demise, my Tangiers phunnel has indeed fallen to the great hookah gods. I am going to let it rest tonight and use my egyptian instead. Hopefully after a day of rest it will be ready to go again, we shall see.However, this is a testament as to how durable Tangiers phunnels are. I am about 5'9" and this bowl was above my head. So, I am guessing it was at least 6' up in the air, falls, hits my foot, smacks the wall, then lands on old-school hard tile flooring and that is all the damage it received. Can't bear the thought of only having one and having it get broken.Hope it turns out that you can still smoke with it though. Nothing wrong with a chipped bowl so long as she works. The pieces matched the tile and the grout so I could barely tell them apart so I my phunnel stayed with me for a couple more days... in my feet. Last time my hookah tipped I lost a phunnel. Like you it didnt seem to have anything wrong so i kept smoking it. Later in the session I went to take the bowl off and pack a new one as it wasnt smoking to hot and the thing just cracked and fell into two large pieces.Its always sad seeing a phunnel down. I keep thinking about how my Mya stock bowl cracked in half right in my hands when I was putting it on my Bambino a while back. Shudder. Stupid ceramic bowls, ugh. More like porcelain. I still am hesitant to use it again, but hell, its not doing me any good just sitting there, may as well try it out and see if it holds up or shatters.I got a very nice package of 8 different healthy samples of Tangiers shisha in the mail from SloppyJoe today, so I have come to the conclusion this sacrifice was necessary. Unfortunately, I think I may need to wait until my new phunnel comes in before I smoke any of the Tang. And, I am kinda pissed with myself that I didn't order 2 phunnels instead of just one, but I didn't expect this one to break...I've dropped it before, ran it under cold water right after a session when it was still steaming hot and it has survived, didn't think anything could break this baby, but I was wrong It has never suffered a 6 foot drop though, so maybe that is what did it in.And ya, at least it wasn't a worse break....we shall see if it really is worse or not tonight though...I got another special package in the mail from KBB with a Razan that needs rebuilt, some fumari shisha, and some Pharoah's shisha. I am thinking about hooking up the Fumari tonight and test it out. After seeing a couple members on here enter their contest it makes me want to try smoking their stuff and see how it goes. To make things worse, it feel squarely on my cell phone and cracked the screen.Bammer. Still have the large yellow one, but we blow through Tangiers like nothings in that bowl.
