ivana
HelloI am opening a hookah lounge and am unsure of which location to pick-First one is only $900/month rent. Older building, will need some workSecond is $2000/month rent. New building, will need cosmetic work. Both are in the same area. Do hookah lounge patrons want a newer building? Or is it all the same to you as well as the hookahs are prepared well, good food, and they are decorated to be a comfortable atmosphere? Im not sure what hookah lounges make typically, so i vote for the $900/month rent to be on the safe side. My partner feels we should go for the more upscale building, thinking if we aim high, we will make more. What would you do?Thanks
joytron
Depends on the area and who you are trying to attract. I would rather pay less say $10 for a bowl in a smaller older building than $15 for a nicer one.
Arcane
depends on what business are surrounding the area...also, consider parking, visibility from the street, etc...i'm not sure how different the buildings are, but if i knew nothing of your lounge, i would avoid anything that looks sketchy...however, you could also put the $1100 you're saving to renovate...so, i dunno...take a look at your surroundings and see which would lead more people to your lounge.location, location, location...after that, appearance, atmosphere, and quality. i actually put quality lower because most consumers don't know the difference between a good and bad hookah. FiveSpeedF150
I'd bet that the older place has a better "Chill Ambiance" about it. If they both need work anyway, go for the cheaper one and fix it up however you like!OTOH, I'm giving this advice without having seen pictures of either. liquidglass
While the new place is nice, I'd personally go with the older place. Not only will you have more to work with and feel more connected to your hookah bar, your patrons will too.As far as the cost, you need to look into the old building a bit more. Find out what it needs to be up to code and check the architectural work, you don't want to have a roof cave in any time soon. If all this checks out then go with the older place for price. Yes, you'll spend a few grand (at least) getting everything up to par, BUT considering that the rent is less than half of the newer building you'll recover the cost within 6 months. Plus the extra money you save can go towards other bills like water, electricity, supplies, wifi.
hookah hippie
I would smoke in an outhouse if the hookah was good enough

Where are you from if you don't mind my asking? We can probably help each other out with advice and issues about getting started (Assuming we're not from the same town! haha). SynysterPhoenix
There are 3 Hookah lounges around here. One has a newer, more modern atmosphere. They have decently priced hookahs, but crappy music. And the people that go there tend to be bros and their fellow tool-headed followers. Not a fan, though its not the lounge's fault. The second one has more of a bar-like atmosphere. Cool people, easy to talk to, always meet someone new. Though it is more expensive (About 3-5 more) I do enjoy this place moreThe third looks like a legit egyptian lounge. Pillows everywhere, you sit on cushions, even their hookahs are egyptian and syrian brands. No Myas from what i can see. Second favorite. Just a luck of the draw I suppose...
