Question About Acclimation In General (non Brand)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, got a little question for you. I recently got about 500 grams of non brand tobacco as a gift from Turkey. Now i split it into 2 batches of 250 in old nakhla cans. The first 250 is almost smoked up, but i noticed the smell and the flavour got less strong in the later bowls (smoke still good). I was wondering if it would help or hurt the flavour if i tried acclimating some of the rest of the tobacco, since i don't want to waste any i thought i'd ask. It's quite coarsely cut and about Nakhla wetness. I assume it's unwashed since it's home made stuff. Could it also be a storage problem? I'd think it'd be ok in nakhla cans with an undamaged lid. Thanks in advance guys.

well i think the flavor is dissipate the longer the tobacco is exposed to air. like, Eric's analogy with a fizzy soda....the more you keep opening the bottle, the more carbonation escapes till one day, it goes flat. same with tobacco, the more you open the container...the more the water evaporates, the flavors dissolve, etc....

maybe that particular shisha doesn't have a good shelf life....

Yeah i think you're right on that. Sad though, maybe storing small amounts is better, like 100 grams per packet. That way you only open the same container 4 times instead of 12-15

With any unwashed (.5%) tobacco its a good idea to accimate it.

Although I dont know if you have an acclimation issue on your hands, but I can tell you from experience that (contrary to popular belief) all shisha can have issues with humidity, washed or not.

I personally smoke about 90% SB and I have had issues where I have had to acclimate it to get it to smoke properly. This is even more tricky with so called "water based" shishas because the water could just evaporate completely out. I cant be sure but I think it has something to do with the extra high humidity here in south FLa in the summer.

Your problem maybe related, setting the shisha out for a few hours will probably not hurt the batch. It may also be something to do with it being homemade or made or poorer quality ingredients that have a short shelf life.
