JDHarding
I'm sure a lot of you have made your own diffusers, but I felt like sharing my little discovery. When I gave up hookah, I decided to toss out that nasty stained plastic diffuser I had been using for 5 or so months. When I got back into smoking recently, I realized I didn't have one, and thought about buying another plastic one. Then I thought why not try to make one? So I took one of my many mesh tea strainers (they come free with teapots and sometimes loose leaf tea too) and tore the metal mesh off of it, then cut it down to size, and ziptied it onto the end of my KH pipe. I thought about adding a second layer of mesh to make even tinier bubbles, but it's working so good that I dunno if I wanna mess with it. It's cool, though. Didn't cost me nothin! JDHarding
I've tried straws before. They're just not the same.
Genie
No, straws aren't the same but they work. I used Mighty Leaf Tea bags at first. They work great. They're just organza fabric. Got really tired of fussing with the rubber bands I was using to hold them on my KM downstem though--that stupid bulbous tip! Switching to straws made my life a lot easier, although they didn't diffuse as well. Glad to have the Heba now. It works much better then the tea bags or the straws and it's a lot easier. Just get the mesh on there, push the ziptie down over the mesh and zzzzzzzzzip! Done.Getting it back off for cleaning will be the tricky part. I think scissors will snip it off. JDHarding
Well.. looks like I don't need the homemade diffuser anymore. Today I found my smaller heba diffuser, and even though the rubber part doesn't fit the stem on my KM Exotica, the plastic part just snaps right on the end! Perfect fit! Woohoo! No, it silences the sound the bigger ones make, and this Exotica is a very noisy lady. She's a gurgler.

The diffuser keeps my 29" KM nice and quiet, just like I like it.
twoapplesplease
It will make a large hookah less noisy. But to me its not worth it.I find it cuts down on flavor alittle.

I don't see how it could. It's not a filter, it just diffuses the bubbles. And I never find residue on it, if I found a bunch of shisha residue on it after a smoke I might be inclined to wonder what it's taking out of my smoke. But... each to her own.
