  1. 1. Which would you buy?

    • Canarys - stick to your favorite

    • Exoticas - sketchy quality, but look at that price!

    • AF Cocos - unpopular, but coconut coals this cheap? wow!

I was perusing HJ's site and noticed amazing deals on coals....however, they're for Exoticas (old batches, maybe?) and the AF coconut coals...

i'm talking $4.99 for a kilo box of exoticas....$49.99 for a 720g box of AF cocos....pretty damn good prices AND there's a bigger discount going on this week?! score!

i was about to buy a case of Canarys, but now I'm thinking of picking up some cheaper coals...

let's pretend you love Canarys, what would you guys do?

decisions decisions...

I voted AF cocos, I tried a 30pk box and they're damn good coals. Not nearly as long lasting as coconara coals but they're good coals, on par with exoticas.

IF you had a magical guarantee you got all great quality boxes of exoticas I'd have voted those.

I wish I had the extra scratch because even though coconaras are still my favorite coals I do use exoticas for certain tobaccos and situations. I'd buy like 6 boxes :/

Can someone tell me, other than longevity, what I must have missed that's SO bad about AF cocos?

I got a small box for free from my local HB cuz he said they sucked and he wasnt going to use them.. I thought hey free coals!!
Well first of all I noticed the shape is really crappy, some are way bigger than others, and all misshapen. aslo they are way smaller than coco's or CH. they seemed to take forever to light, cuz they wont sit flat on the burner. and they didnt last nearly as long as COCO's..

That is all, other than that, they are great coals wink.gif

I know exoticas have had a bad thing happen...but the company got caught and DID fix the problem... for once a company actually listened to its consumers. I have been an exotica fan for a while now.. I have smoked with canerys, coconaras, AF cocos, and HJcocos - Which are all quality products but I smoke alot... and for being cost-effective exotica beat everyone hands down. I enjoy exoticas. The heat is good.. I get a box and cut my coals into 4ths or 5ths... I put 2 on a mya bowl and 3-4 on a phunnel. works good everytime. I wont switch brands.

All I know is the CH coals are all I use and I don't care to try anything else. if it isn't broke don't fix it. Johns coals just are alwys perfect. Probably others are as good but I just deal with John and his product.

how do you know they actually fixed it?

did they release a statement or bulletin or something?

or are you going off the few boxes that mushrat mentioned?

I have cases of the new products. they def. fixed it. I have talked to the company personally. lol and mushrat and I have a common factor but that is not why i know. I see the quality. I know the quality.
